Just wondering - I have never been present at a vetting of my potential purchases, but do you usually go along? Any reasoning behind your answer?

Yes if I possibly can as I like to discuss what the vet is seeing and give the go ahead to do further tests or stop the vetting if a large problem arises. Difficult if you live far away but I would go if it was within a couple of hours each way.

I go so i can tell the vet exactly what i am looking for and ask their honest opinion on value etc as i always use my own vets from home whom i trust

We try to make sure that one of us is there when the horse is being vetted. It worked out quite well last time, because the rider couldn't get there, so I rode it for the vetting instead.

We prefer to have someone there, as someone mentioned before, so that we can discuss any findings with the vet, and mention anything that we've had doubts about, so that we can have the vet's opinion.

I've always been able to attend the vettings I've arranged, if anything comes up, its easy to get the vet to explain the implications etc etc.

Yes because i'd want to see how the horse reacted to vet and discuss everything with vet when I was there. PLus I don't think I could keep myself away!!

We've only ever bought the one horse and were both present at her vetting. It was very enlightening - we learnt alot, the vet explained everything to us and the seller.

Wouldn't have missed it.

I'd always want to be present at a vetting to discuss any findings with the vet there and then, especially if it wasn't my own vet. Our vets always recommends purchasers are present at vettings too.

I've only ever had 3 horses vetted and I was there for each of them. I just think it helps to see horse again and ask any questions during vetting process.

I wouldn't have even considered not being there when I got mine vetted. I wanted to be there in person to discuss any matters arising with the vet and also see how he reacted to being prodded and poked. (Also if there are any questions arising on the spot it's good to put them to the seller straight away - maybe I'm a cynic but it doesn't give them any time to prepare an answer if a doubt or question arises and also the vet is there (authority figure) to back up or expand any line of questionning if neccessary.)

We couldn't make the vetting when we had Pickle vetted, however did leave a big list of questions we had compiled and what we wanted looking at etc. Which were all addressed, then had long chat with vet. So don't se e the problem, not everyone has the time to attend, my dad works such long hours it just wasnt possible.

Yes, it is important to be there. There is no such thing as a 'perfect specimen', so it's always important to discuss the horse with the vet, and a vet will always say more in person, than they are willing to put down in writing if they haven't met you!!!!

Yes, because I want to see how the horse behaves, and discuss there and then any issues that may arise with the vet and seller.

I said yes because i would probably have questions i would want to ask the vet and i would want to see how the horse behaves

Over the years I have attended all but one of the vettings I've had done & the one I didn't go to was the only one I didn't buy! Much prefer to be there if at all possible as other's have said to discuss things with the vet.

Out of the nine i have/had only 3 have been vetted as they were bought to compete with. The others have been little companion ponies, first horses (and tbh at the time didnt know better about vettings). I havent been to any of the vettings as the horses at the time were all far away, plus they were all done the day after organising them so didnt have the chance to get time off work. However all the vets were really good taking my lists of questions on board, called me several times during each vetting, then had a long conversation with me afterwards. never felt that i have been misled, not been given any info etc, from not being there.
