Do rugs lose their warmth?

Hey

I just wondered whether rugs lose their warmth when you have had them for quite a few years?

I have 2 weatherbeeta combo rugs that are 360g.
One I have had for over 5 years and use it a lot.
The other I have had for 2 years but dont use it that much.

The rug that is 5 years old is a lot thinner than the other rug now. Also the neck rug feels like it doesnt have any filling in it anymore.

Do you think the rug that is 5 years old will still be as warm as it was originally 360g? Or do you think that over years it will now be nearer 300g warm?

I think the filling goes flat after a few years. Once the filling is flat the rug no longer traps as much air, so looses its insulating properties, thus isn't as warm IMO.

I must say, I have often wondered if that's the case.
I have had to put a new PE 250g liner under an old (5yr) Taka which is supposed to be 400g, as my TB is hunter clipped & gets too cold with the Taka alone.
The older rugs do seem to get thinner, & so presumably aren't trapping as much air in the polyfil.

If you tumble dry them though they tend to fluff back out

A leading rug manufacturer told me they lose thir warmth but not sure if that was beacuse they wanted to sell more rugs

I still wear an old polyester filled jacket that has gone 'flat' - don't notice it being any less warm

I downgrade the rugs that have gone thin to 'colder' rugs and buy more HW rugs!

Yes, I think the synthetic filled rugs gradually loose the warmth. Like a duvet really.
