Due to a change in circumstances I'm looking to take on a companion over winter so that my horse isn't on his own, but I'm not sure whether these even exist?!

In my head there must be someone needing their field rested, their horse rested whilst off from injury etc.. but whether this is the 'ideal,' in my head I dont know! I know that some people wont want the upheavel for their horse if after 6 months they then need to have it back...

Anyone ever done the same?

Yes there are people out there prepared to do a short term loan expecially over winter. When we was trying to loan our NF pony out a lady rang & asked if we would do a short term loan from Oct - April, although he came back in Feb, but we hadn't had any other interest & it helped us out as we was going into winter. Sadly he is no longer with us, but it does & can work :)

You'll have no problem finding one - just advertise on Polo Times....all the polo ponies need winter homes!

We took on a polo pony as a companion for 5 months over the winter, she was easy, no hassle, clearly used to going to new places etc. In fact we ended up falling in love with her and still have her...but that's a whole other story!

I'm sure you'll find something that needs to be turned away for a bit.
Where abouts are you as mine might need turnout soon.

Which you now need to share please :D

I was asked if I could borrow my 3 year old pony as a companion to a friend a few weeks back, he is not broke and tbh is just a companion to some other youngsters as he is a calm lad for a baby himself. I agreed as he would only be going up the road and I know the person very well, ask around I am sure someone will borrow you a companion over winter.
