Do snuggy/lycra hoods rub?

No, my snuggy hood doesn't rub my horses mane, but his horsey friend has started to try and pull it off ... not good when it goes over his eyes

Mine wears his 24/7 in the summer (dodgy skin) and I try to give him a break from it in the winter so only use it when he really needs to be clean. It didn't rub at all to start with but after 6 months of constant use if started to rub his cheek bones. I phoned snuggy hoods and they are going to line it with silky material ready for this summer.

I know lots of horses that wear snuggy hoods and none of them have rubbed at all and they never move or slip. The lycra hoods are not the same and only yesterday I saw a pony with one slipped completely across its eyes so it was blindfolded int he stable - could have been very nasty had the pony panicked.

I have a snuggy hood for each of my two, they have never rubbed. I wouldn't leave them on more than 24 hours in the winter as they can get quite itchy, great for turning out though. My pair are spotless!

Hmmmm I didn't think about the difference between materials... The shires one just says stretchy fabric, so not sure it is lycra otherwise they'd probably just say lycra... I wonder if it's the lining of the snuggy hoods that make the difference though... Maybe I will be saving up for one of those next winter!

I use a dress circle full body night before a show. Mine also wear the snuggy SI bodies 24 x 7 from May to September to help them with mild SI. I did also use the hoods but was concerned that the mane was being thinned, so I went back to using lots of my oily spray instead. I do use the Snuggy hoods for the month of April as the midges are biting and they are still coming in to stop them rubbing in the stable.

If you use a hood, make sure it is washed every week. Keep the mane clean and if long, in plaits. Use megatek and survivor detangler on the mane to keep it strong and slightly slippery.

I avoid neck covers and hoods as much as possible to avoid damage to Stinky's precious mane.

i found any of the lycra stable use ones are fine and dont rub, but the heavier turnout ones do-mine was snuggy hoods and it took virtually an entire mane in a week!!!!

i now use the turnout heads (like balaclavas) with full neck rugs and this works much better-clean heads, warm ears, full manes!
