Do some people really have NO clue at all???

Ok, so I share a horse on a V small friendsly yard- usually everyone is lovely, chatty etc. There have been a few new arrivals recently and it is obvious one girl knows diddly squat about keeping horses- not my place to say, so have just let her get on with it but Im sure at some point soon this horse is going to have a problem here's why:

I go up there on Weds, ride the big pink one etc. Fine she rocks up gets on said ned (who had been giving an enormous feed 15 mins earlier by someone else) said ned is in some odd contraption, she goes in the school. I go to leave and see her riding said ned with its head basically touching its knees, said contraption hauling it in..... doubt very much if it can see where it is going... and she isnt wearing a het

On thursday I go out for an amble round the block, come back as she comes TROTTING onto the yard when there are several horses tied up.... horse is white with sweat- she jumps off, shoves it in its stable, puts on its HW NZ feeds it a giganta feed and leaves....

Why why why cant people just ahve a tiny bit of respect for their neds???

would not want to interfere to much however think I would of said to her if I seen her getting ready for ride something like" Hi thought I would just let you know your horse was fed just 15 mins ago, lets hope the weather stays nice for you by the time your horse has had more time to digest his feed" I know everyone has to learn and a helping hand or friendly word to put them right would be gratefully appreciated by all horses with silly owners

If you think she's putting the horse or others on the yard at risk, then there's nothing to stop you having a quiet word, although you don't have to come across as lecturing. Indeed, like the other poster said, maybe say something like 'were you aware horse has just been fed?' or what I used to do with silly girl that would leave soaking, sweaty pony in huge stable rug and go home 'leave ponyo in a fleece and when I leave later I will change your rugs over - that way you can go home to your homework and know that horse will not be sweating into stable rug'.
We had one girl up on our yard for a while, who used to lunge her horse until it was white with sweat, then hose it down (winter or summer), throw a rug on it and chuck it back in the stable. She thought she was being nice to it - until someone pointed out the error in her ways...

I'm afraid it's true!

I think some of the other sugestions above are good ones... maybe next time it comes back all hot and sweaty say something (directed to the horse in, perhaps in a semi-soppy voice) like ' wow! someones had a work out!! ... gonna need a good hour to cool down before tea tonight aren't you!!'

if its any consolation, there are people like that all over the place and fortunately for their horses they get away with such behaviour its only folk like us who once in a lifetime make the error of feeding their horse in a hurry after riding that then get a problem! ;o)

There's a new guy at my yard who gets on his horse, sits really deep in the saddle and leans back then wonders why his horse moves off and so jabs it in the gob! - I'm honestly amazed the horse has any teeth left! makes me cringe every time he gets on...

I'm lucky to keep my horses' at home although it does have its downsides - no helping hands, no riding companions on tap, other people doing maintenance for you of fields, arena etc. However, there is one bonus - you don't have to watch horses being badly treated. I hesitate to suggest this but, if its really something you can't stomach, and you can't move, there is always the anonymous note!

We have another guy at our yard who ties his horse by the reins to the arena gate while he puts jumps out! Fortunately for him, she just stands there. If I tried to do that even once, I can guarantee I would have one galloping horse dragging a gate behind him with broken reins!!!
Sometimes ignorance really is bliss.

Woah!! If I were you I'd mention something to the YO! Then also make some suggestions to the girl myself!! Just also be on the lookout for her pony - it sounds like he'll need someone responsible to help out! I just don't understand why some people have horses..?! Xx
