Do Sticky Seat Breeches work ??

I have used leather seated ones, cavallos and also a cheaper version but can't remember which, they do make you feel secure in the seat, but if you do come of i find they stick and you don't come of easily and they bruise my legs.

I've got a pair of the Caldene Belgrade "sticky bum" breeches.

They're OK'ish, but over time some of the "sticky" has worn off a bit.

Also........ they're fine for wearing for a quick trot round the block BUT they're the most uncomfortable pair of breeches you could ever wear after about an hour onwards; unfortunately the seam underneath one's (ahem) lady-bits is bulky instead of being turned over and hemmed, and by god after an hour's riding you just wanna rip the damn things off, take it from me!!! I wore them for a pleasure ride, which TBH was anything but.

So I wouldn't recommend these.

I too had the Caldene Belgrade ones and to begin with were very helpfully but they're about 7 years old now and well worn with no stickiness left to them!

I'm hoping to invest in some decent ones so would also like to know any that people can recommend!

I've got the Premier Equine breeches with the suede seat and they are absolutely great at keeping you in the saddle. I don't move at all despite my horse regularly bolting with me.

I actually just purchased some very expensive (gulp) sticky bum breeches. I have a friend who owns a tack shop and I think I had some kind of seizure! I have been wearing full seat breeches since I got my new saddle (which is quite slippy) but these are definitely the next level. I've had them less than a month and I feel like they've saved me twice already - first there was the pheasant-flying-out-from-under-nose monster spook then there was the last-second refusal at a XC jump when my martingale broke (although I'm pretty sure the Devoucoux Biarritz saddle that I've been trying helped too :D). Didn't like them much the first couple of times that I wore them though - I rose to the trot but they didn't - but now they've worn in and I've added a belt I love them! Need to find some cheaper alternatives though ... Mine are by Academia, an Italian company I think, although I can't find them on t'Internet and have the Prestige Schoeller material. I could find out though, if anyone wants to know.

In a word, yes. I wear clarino seat breeches. The 'sticky' pimple ones aren't as good I don't think, as the pimples soon get worn off, and suede is a pain to wash.

I have found that many new saddles use really slippery leather. I'm definitely not the only one to complain about this, as I read an article where William F-P mentioned this problem too, and when you’re in a sticky situation, a smooth and slippery saddle can really be the difference between a clear round and an elimination!

I actually had my x country saddle made with a nubuck seat and knee panels. My saddle is amazing, and has made a huge difference in my confidence and riding, and this in turn has improved my horses jumping confidence. Even my trainer is incredibly impressed and has told me that he's tempted to get the same made for his yard!

There is also a product you can buy, to rub into your saddle to make the leather 'stickier'. I haven't tried this though, so can't comment on how effective it is.

Yes, I have used the spray, but only on the top of my boots to help keep my legs in place for comps. Twas my instructor's idea - just to give you an indication of how bad my legs are! I don't think I'd want to use it all the time or all over the saddle though, as I had to scrape it off with a knife
