Do these actually exist? Lunging cavesson piece that can be attached to a bridle

After reading the EquiAmi v Pessoa thread I've decided to get a cavesson to lunge with my EquiAmi, as apparently I will still be able to control my sharp, strong horse and the EquiAmi will then work more efficiently. :)

I have a lunge cavesson already but I don't like it much and have only used it a handful of times - it's bulky and the rings on the noseband are too heavy. I don't think my horse would find it very comfortable either. I don't really like the idea of putting a lunge cavesson over a bridle to use the EquiAmi as that seems quite heavy for the horse, and as my (sensitive) horse hasn't been lunged in a cavesson before (not since I've had him anyway, and I doubt he had before I bought him) I don't want him to find it uncomfortable and resist it.

I'm sure I've seen lunging cavesson attachments that you can put onto a normal bridle in place of the noseband, but having just looked online I can't find anything. Do these or similar things exist? If not, can anyone recommend a comfortable, light and discreet lunge cavesson that can be used with a bridle/bit?

Thanks in advance, Tash

Ive got a little strap that attaches to the normal bit rings on the bridle. It sits underneath, a bit like a curb strap and has a swivelling clip that you attach the lunge line to. It works really well and isnt in the slightest bit heavy or bulky.

I have one of these as well and find it useful, but I don't think that you're supposed to lunge from the bit at all with an EquiAmi, as it interferes with the action of the EquiAmi, and the self-balancing that the horse has to do. Thanks for posting though :)

It's more effective in a cavesson because attaching the lunge line to the bit affects the action of the self-centring loop that the EquiAmi provides for the horse to work in. So effectively the horse is working in the loop (passes through the bit rings), and is also being pulled by the lunge line, so the loops effect is slightly compromised.

I too have one of these and have seen them used for various things such as a show lead attachment, a device to keep the bit balanced in the mouth. You could maybe clip it on as a noseband over the top rather than under the chin.

Im sure I have seen an attachment for the bridle, and Im certain it was on a thread on here a couple of years ago, but really cant remember who makes it.

I currently used just a head piece and brow band under a normal lunge cavasson which has worked well for all horses so far. My gelding though is very itchy in it and can't wait to get it off, so I have ordered a lightweight cavesson with a leather nose piece and a pair of bit straps (only £4.50 a pair) to attach the bit. Hopefully he will be happier in this.

Where did you order it from if you don't mind me asking? I think I need something new as I really don't like the lunge cavesson that I have (was given it so couldn't refuse at the time), and I know my horse won't like it either as the rings on the noseband are far too heavy and it doesn't stay still when the horse is moving. So if I can't find something that goes onto the bridle, what you've ordered sounds ideal.

I do really want a Micklem bridle, but that is something I'll have to save up for as I've had quite a lot of horsey outgoings lately. Will keep a look out for an ebay bargain though, but I think they're probably the kind of things that people hang on to.

I have seen on the EquiAmi website that they have actually designed a cavesson with attachments for the bit, but it is nylon and I want a leather one really. Although it does look nice and has won awards, I just don't really like the look of a nylon cavesson.

This one is nylon and leather. It is the one I have got:

along with these:

But if you want all leather, you could try this:

Though it looks a bit heavy to me.

I have an old, odd piece of kit, it wraps round the front of the cavesson and poppers closed, with rings for lunging! It's very odd, ive never used it as don't trust it to stay done up!!!

I know exactly what you mean as I used to have one! I really wish I could get another as it was brilliant. I used it for about 20 years and not once did the poppers come undone. It was so easy if I was short of time as I just fixed it to the front of the headcollar and off we went (had to tighten headcollar to a snug fit to stop twisting). It was also handy for leading a strong pony back to the field as you could take it off in seconds.
I suppose it would be possible to get one made up if I drew a saddler a diagram. It was very soft black leather, almost like suede, which folded into three parts around the noseband. There was a part with three metal rings, and a part which folded over that with slots that the rings went through and it all poppered together (with very strong poppers I might add).
ALSXX, I'd be happy to buy yours off you if you don't want it!

Thanks Wagtail - will most probably order the first two items on the list i.e. what you have!

Just to warn you, the cavesson comes up very big around the nose if you get the horse size, and was too loose for my TB and even the 17hh WB, so I had to exchange it for a cob size one.

Hi, I have the [content removed], and everything together, especially the [content removed] has made the whole lunging experience so much easier. The [content removed] is sooooooo much lighter and softer than any other [content removed] I have seen or used and does not slip around the side of the horses face when being used like some other have that I have used in the past. It is really useful having the bit attachments. I have added a bit to this [content removed] so it is ready to use at any point and is easily adjustable to fit to any of my horses. It looks super smart even though it is material and would highly recommend getting one.
