Do you know if anyone exists that will go to a sales for you and buy you a suitable horse (obviously with your money)

Are there any businesses like this? Im not knowledgable to buy a horse from a sales etc but would not be against it - so would need someone to help choose a suitable horse.

Does this exist??

I know companies do but generally dealing with a BIG budget. Whether there is anyone who does it for your average buyer I don't know. People who go on regular buying trips will keep an eye out for you (for a fee). Try contacting reputable dealers and giving them a shopping list of what you want.
If you say where you are based HHOers may be able to recommend someone.

You should definitely take up JM07’s offer!!!

No way would I buy a horse from a sale.

Ask yourself why people sell their horses at a sale - to get rid of a problem and it's history!

If you want a horse then advertise locally in tack shops, feed merchants and word of mouth. At least you then will know the true history of the horses.

you truely do not know what you are talking about..

i am classed, by law, as a dealer, because of the amount of ponies/horses i buy/sell...

i do NOT buy/sell at Sales because my animals have problems..

get real.....Horses/Ponies are no different at Auctions than Cars...and the Guarentees(sp) are EXACTLY the same...you have FAR more com backs buying via a reputable sale than via a private sale wher you have NO COME BACK whatsoever...

the above is written by a horse/pony dealer so it MUST BE TOTAL BOLLOX.....

I'd go with JM07 she knows her stuff and she'll certainly tell it like it is

Personally I'd be reluctant to but from a sale as I believe you are not normally able to try before you buy (I've never actually been to one so correct me if I'm wrong JM07!) and for me 'feel' is very important. How ever I think they are as good a place to buy as any providing you are experienced or have a reliable guiding hand.
PeterNatt there are plenty of nice horses that get moved on through sales because people are unable or unwilling to wait for a private sale. I would imagine now you could get some total bargains because of the credit crunch and people needing money quickly. When you buy from a dealer or Sales as a commercial organization you are protected by law so in some respects it is actually safer way to buy.

Do you have an instructor that knows you or a friend?, you may find something through word mouth. What kind of contacts do you have

JM07 will defo look after you, just don't expect any sugar coating!

This went through a sale at £1750

A machine over jumps but as safe as houses in traffic and the nicest mare you could wish to handle. Never bucked, kicked, bitten or reared and has no soundness issues nor vices. Her worst thing is that her mane goes to both sides if you don't plait it over.

Been offered a LOT of money for her

Her owner was away to uni and couldn't wait long enough to sell her privately

example of buying from sale....

i bought a newly backed 4yr old tb x mare for a decent price (but far cheaper than privatly ) she was fully warrented at sale , got her home popped her on lunge and wasnt happy , she made a slight noise and her breathing rate wasnt right so i called vet straight out , he did full exam and found a significant heart murmur , wrote me a report . i contacted sales yard and they accepted her as a return , all money was paid back to me including the cost of vet and transport
the seller would have been far better off advertising her privatly and hoping the buyer was novice enough not to have her vetted ( not something i would ever do ) , in a saleroom enviroment you have far more comeback , the seller i expect knew of her heart probs and just wanted rid , he got her back ,, tough luck eh?
i,ve bought many genuine nice safe riding horses from sales , but yes you do need a knowlegable person to go with you as there are shady characters everywhere who will sell you anything for a price , both privatly and at sales

Sorry but thats a load of crap,(peternatt)i have bought many horses from sales and in all my years of doing so i have only bought 2 that turned out to be loony tunes, maybe because i have always bought hairy cobs that i havnt had a problem but there are genuine reasons why horses end up at market,i have bought 2 police horses from reading market a few years ago,i have even done ok out of the horses i bought from southall, the difference with buying from sales is you have to know what your looking for and who has put the horse through the ring,as there are a few dealers that will put a horse through knowing that it has problems and they havnt been able to sell it privatly,i am not a dealer myself anymore,i just have 1 horse but i think from what i have seen on this forum that JM07 would be the best to help you,as though i dont know her she seems to have a no nonsense approach to the horse world

I have both bought and sold at sales. You usually can get a higher price selling privately but there is a lot more hassle. If you go regularly you learn which people put dodgy horses into the sales, and what the current market rate is. Private sellers lying through their teeth are a pet hate of mine.

don't agree mr natt, many people are in a rush for whatever reason (often genuine), have tried other means of selling and simply dont have a choice but to accept a lower price at market. I know many genuine equines that have been bought at market, some ex police horses who just didnt make quite the grade but made great RC horses, or others whose owners found themselves in a corner and needed to sell -quick.

You will always get dodgy dealers, it goes with any trading situation, but private sellers are not always honest!!

It is like ANY purchase you need to know your stuff and buyer beware, good and bad in all etc etc. I think once upon a time markets may have been to "get rid of problems" but over the years things have changed, you can get some lovely animals out of unfortunate situations.

I'll give you £500 cash for your coloured cob JM?

To the original poster, Malvern sales is one of the better sales, you can try them out have them vetted and they come with the description warrenty, have bought and sold there.
