If you're trying to prevent mud fever, you want the turnout boots, not the stable chaps really.

The ONLY turnout chaps ive seen help though have been the equilibra ones.. mainly because they're the only ones ive yet to see that dont move, flip up at the bottom or leak.

However, you need to wash them, quite thoroughly, every day so they're clean and dry ready for the next day turnout (easy if theres a washing machine at the yard, not so great otherwise).

The stable chaps are better for arthritic horses or those who suffer with circulation problems as they keep legs warm inside and are a decent substitute for bandages.

You can put them onto wet legs but the legs have to be washed off thoroughly first and -personally- i still dont put them straight on, i leave the legs to dry.

If you put them over dirty legs (even slightly dirty legs), the mud builds up on the inside and will rub, so again, they have to be washed regularly.

I cant see how these Robinsons 'chaps' can do most of the things being claimed for them tba.

You need some Equilibrium chaps if you want to stop the skin getting in contact with the mud.

Gold label Mud Gaurd is brill! and fairly inexpensive! as soon as you see the first sign of mud fever put this on to remove it or you could put on before turning out as a preventitive measure, bought the chaps but managed mud fever no problem all winter with one bottle of mud gaurd, we have 4 coloured horses so thats 16 white legs it worked on!!
