As title...

I want to get a Thorowgood for my Haflinger, but would really want to make sure I had the right size.

Am also a bit puzzled why they don't sell their 'Haflinger' saddles in this country but I am due a trip to Germany soon

GFS make a'haflinger' saddle which is for Cobs. Thorowgood sell something labelled Haflinger but only in Europe not UK, not sure if it is just a relabel of something with a different name but same product here.

I use a normal Thorowgood maxam cob saddle for my Haflinger and we couldnt get a saddle fitter to fit it tho they would sell it at ££ more than I got it for. It fits her fantastically and have been using it 2 years, it was meant to be a stop gap but havent needed to replace it.

Ours is XW but we are on the widest fish, for most haffies as you can narrow the fish but not widen it, I would go for XXW and narrow it as required.

It is esp suitable for table top flat Haffies as it has the 4 girth strap set back which gives the saddle much more stability. The only thing thats bad are the synthetic girth straps, hard to do up and after the strain of holding haffie tummy for 6 months mine started to crack. I had the 2 I use (front and 4th at the back) replaced by leather ones, what a relief!!

Aaaahhhh...that makes a lot of sense!! Although there is a chain of tack shops in Germany that do 6 different brands of 'Haflinger' saddle so I might measure her up and then wait till I go out there.

As a Thorowgood retailer, I have sold the Thorowgood Halflinger saddle to a customer down here in Cornwall, as her 14hh heavy little cob needed an almost flat across the withers saddle but in 16.5" long, they are xxxw!!

Have a look at the Thorowgood website - they have a list of retailers in all counties. I would imagine the "haflinger " is a re-badged "cob" saddle, but you could email them to make sure.
We sell the T'good cob & it does go really wide!

That is the problem of living at the end of the country!! but last week I did get an order for a saddle on Thursday, which Thorowgood had in stock and they delivered it direct to the customer on Friday, so she could have it for the weekend!!

If you look at this page from the Thorowgood website
http://www.thorowgood.com/uk/where_to_buy_uk.htm

and scroll down to cheshire, you will find 4 retailers in your county, at least one of them should be able to offer a fitting service, if you scroll down to Cornwall you will find my listing there!

they are popular and easy to resell as well if it doesnt work for your pony because of their width and adjustability and practicality. have just been out on mine on the orange girlie!
