Do us horsey people just take too much on!! (having a bad day)

Ok, full time job although 4 days on and 4 days off, but the downside is permanent night shift 19:00 - 07:00, 2 happy hacker horses (live out, and not ridden in current climate), 4 working springer spaniels. I also keep, breed and maintain 2 small flocks of rare breed sheep totalling 25 atm with lambing on the horizon, keep chickens at home too. I also have 2 snakes, 9 geckos and a praying mantis that all need taking care of daily as well as the OH who also does 4on/4off nights - thankfully he does nearly all the cooking at home though, so I tend to sort out the critters while he does the humans .........
I also have the next 12 days off - yay !!!!!!!

Its a bit un fair the comment about one child.I only have my son and does demand a lot of my time due to haveing no brother or sister(personal circumstances).A lot of my friends have said its easier with 2 children as they keep each other occupied!

Don't you believe it! Might be so when they get older. Mind you, if they are anything like me and my sister I will have another job as referee!

My mother always tells me I spread myself too thin - I work 26 hour weekends and have full time college in the week - a household to run with 2 teenagers, a dog, 2 cats and an OH and I have 2 horses one of which is a youngster - and I still have time to post on forums. :D
 
Oh bless you, we all have days like these, and have to say they always seem a lot worse at this time of year. Its cold dull and dark and when you are fed up, it does not really lift your mood, with me its just makes me feel worse. You do a fantastic job by the sounds of it, and today is just a bad day, you say you are off soon, so that will give you a bit more me time, to recharge your batteries, I am sure it will get better. Spring is just around the corner lighter days warmer weather hold on it can only get better x
 
If it makes you feels as though you're not the only one...I live in North London, with a yard in Kent including a current schooling livery and a project to break. I run my own company and am in the process of starting another, and managing staff too. I have a 4 month old Daughter, a relationship on the brink and a dog I would like to shoot. Oh, but I do have some lovely tablets that stop me going off the wall. LEGAL ones I might add!
 
Have to agree, horsey poeple def take too much on!!!

I'm in full time work, try to ride every day, do Zumba (on Wii :D) 3 - 4 times a week, at college part time, doing an online course, have 2 dogs to walk, see the family (mum has parkinsons) and friends then when I do find 10 mins I feel bad for not doing anything :( Also trying to get on a pilates course once a week.

At the min I should be writting an assignment but I really can not get my head around earth cuttings and machinery!! Oh well 5 mins on here then I'll try again :D
 
I think given the choice, most of us are the type of people who like to be kept busy!

Most of us work full time, have other pets/dependants/responsibilities but wouldn't change it for the world.

I've always enjoyed how busy it keeps me. Having recently had a promotion in work however I've had to make the call to move off of DIY and my boy is now going to be on full livery (albeit it at a yard that has 24/7 turn out pretty much all year round).

I'm hoping this gives me more time as I do feel that the one thing that sometimes suffers is the time I spend with family and non horsey friends.
 
Pah!! Hello, yes, I'm here....all be it slightly frazzled.

Working full time with 2 hours of commuting everyday and 6 horses...all in at night. And a struggling diary farm we are trying to get off the ground.

If I DO ever get a slightly free bit of time, I can't keep still and have to go and do something. :rolleyes: :D

Would I change it for anything...other than a bit less commuting would be nice...absolutely not! I'm certifiably bonkers I think :cool:
 
Yes we take too much on.. run around constantly like nutters... but once the spring is here, horsey life gets easier for a while, longer days, horses happy spending lots of time turned out.. more chilled.. just have to get through the winters..
 
Get up between 6am and half past, down the stables for 7, in the office 8ish washed changed quick bowl of cereal and at my desk by 8.30 work through till 5pm lucky if i ever get a lunch break usually have to send one of the junior staff out for me. straight to stables home from 6.30pm to 7. One week day evening and sundya nights i work closing shifts at the pub so start at 7pm during week or 6pm on weekend till midnight.
My lad came down with chronic mud fever at start of year so requiring lots of extra attention and now has me rushing to wash and dry his boots every night as can't afford a 2nd pair have picked up 1 to 2 extra shfits per week to pay for all the lotions potiions and boots he's needed and vet bill. i am single and have a diy project of a hosue which needs constant work. AM exhausted have no back up no one nice at the yard who eill give me any kidn of assistance and no one at home to help out with the chores, to top it off i require regular physio and medication to control osteo arthritus pain (bare in mind am only 30). Yes everyone family included tells me am insane but i love my horse and whilst am not too crippled to care for him i intend to keep him as its the onyl good thing i have that i enoy. but would be sooooooooo nice if someone just once said is there anything i can do to make things a little easier for you rather than saying unhelpful things like dont know why u bother / or just sell him. they jsut dont ge tit lol

My babyponies are in a youngstock herd as my own field is a) full and b) wouldn't have given them the childhood I wanted them to have.

Each field is a mile from my house in a different direction so it's not too bad. And they're all out, which helps.
