I'm looking to buy a new riding hat, and as I always get a sweaty head when I'm schooling wearing my current Champion skull cap, I'm considering getting a ventilated hat this time.

Do they actually help though? And also, (bit of a numpty question coming up, I'm afraid!) do they let rain in?!

I bought one, and it does seem to work....It certainly doesnt smell like my old one!

I havent experienced any rain being let in!!!

I have a Harry Hall something ventilated and I suppose comparing it to the old days yes only minimally! But my head still sweats(yuk) if i get hot but more around the rim bit at the forehead as I suppose it has to fit against your skin. Usualy sweaty and an imprint!

Re Rain been out in all sorts driving rain etc never got a wet head! Definitely dry.

There was a recommendation on here recently on another thread???

Had a GPA that was fab, needed to upgrade it due to age couldnt afford a new one so bought a Gatehouse F1, kept my head very cool, and certainly did its job a few weeks ago when I suffered a high impact injury (dont know what happened but either got kicked in the head or head first into a fencing post, hat sent back to manufacture for analysis).
Daughters have got the Champion Ventairs and love them, i bought then theres after seeing the damage to Oli T's hat after his fall in Kentucky.

Was going to post a similar thread myself so will follow this with interest, am sick of getting such a hot head that I end up with a pounding headache, new 'Summer' hat is definitley in order!

OH and I have Troxel lightweight hats and wore them to ride in Spain in June 2 years ago - they were definitely better than our normal hats (a charles owen, and a HS1) but still got a bit sweaty around the headband.

Yep, at least some do. I've been using Champion Universal's for over ten years, they seem to be the only ventilated hats the same shape as my head. Sadly not beautiful, but really lightweight, my head never gets hot, cheap, the little pads in it can come out so you can wear a warm hat under it in winter and the peak can velcro off if you want to put a silk on it.

My hats are one of those products i can't praise highly enough and I think I'll be stuck if they ever stop making them.

I have a Charles Owen Pro II and that is not pleasant after an hours lesson!

Just bought a GPA Speed air and do have to say my head is so cool and when it is windy it is almost like somebody is blowing cold air in the vents but the downside is that is isn't PAS015 but is the EN1384 or whatever it is!

Previous to this I had the Charles Owen Adventura and that seemed to keep my head fairly cool.

Hubby has just got a Gatehouse HS1 and his head is really sweaty in that but it is rated the highest SNELL rating.

yes yes yes! they definitely do! i hve a troxel something or other, bought it last yr. coz my pony can be quite pingy and bouncy, i tend to work up quite a heat in the summer, so bought this and its brill. no more slicked down hair when i take my hat off!

I have a Troxel and it works for me! Never had a problem with rain either. I overheat easily and can't imagine wearing a non-ventilated hat during a hot summer!

I think I had a troxel that had adjustable size, you tightened something at the back to fit your head. I hated it, found it really hurt my head when at the correct tightness.

Got a champion ventair now, still get sweaty head, least it don't hurt my skull though! I've not had rain through!

I've just got the caldene ultra. It's a gorgeous hat but not ridden in it yet but would reccomened you look at them
