When we got Beau in feb this year he was shall we say, in poor condition. He was down as 17.2hh on his passport, but because he was so skinny he didnt look it, his saddle was a medium fit.

We knew he was going to fill out once he was getting proper care, and he has, however he has also grown, and is now a smidge off 18hh.
He is now also past the extra wide on the gullet scale, so I dont even have a saddle tio fit him at the moment, going to have to get one made I think.

Im just wondering if he is going to get any bigger really as people keep telling me WB's can grow until 8-9yrs old!

When we got him, I dont think he looks 17.2hh even:

And yesterday(his 2nd time in thePessoa!):

Wondering if its worth spendin a lot of money on a saddle that wont fit in another 6 months time.

I guess it depends on the bloodlines - some of the bigger types will def grow until they are 7. Some of the lighter types will probably reach maturity at 5/6.

Hi is Begian WB x ISH if that helps.

Thats what Im thinking but I think I would have to sell my OH to afford one!

Gosh....he's HUGE!!! and very handsome!
Have you thought about getting a Wintec Wide? If you buy one now and he then changes shape/grows again and it no longer fits you'll probably get a decent price for it second hand on Ebay?

Have a look on ebay as there are some nice ones that come up, also phone WOW as I got told by a fitter that they have a lot of ex-demo ones that sell very cheaply
smile.gif
You just have to think of it as an investment as it will last you a very long time

Thanks Bex, I had thought about that but I was worried they wouldnt make them in a big enough seat size, as I thought they were move for cob types with short backs?

I just cant afford to keep replacing leather saddes, and a WOW is just too expensive.

He looks super, he really does. You have obviously done a fantastic job with him. Why was he in such a poor state when you got him?

18hh is a bit scary, though, even for me ! If he DOES keep on growing for a while, maybe it would be better if he grew up rather than out even further !

he looks great now!

Archie is still growing/maturing - hes 17'3 at the moment, i really hope he dosent get any taller tho!!!!

Thanks!

LOL at least you are tall with long legs, im only 5ft 5, lets just say getting off on a hack is not an option unless I want to walk home!

My two warmbloods did both keep growing until they were about 7 1/2. After about 6 they didn't really seem to grow much more height wise but continued to fill out & changed a lot. I would suggest trying a saddle company or wow saddle as they can be adjusted as the horse grows!

I had looked on ebay as week and there was one only 10miles from me that went for under 1k, which is fine, but I was worried about it not fitting him, all the panels etc confuse me! are they expensive to get adjusted?

I want a VSD really because he has quite a big shoulder.

ooh I never thought of ex demo's!

id have a look at thorowgood saddles. maybe chat to them. they arnt too expensive new and you can flog them on at a reasonable price when your finished with them or some people will take them part exchange. i love mine. but its for a pokey TB

My DWB xTB finally finished growing in height at 8 and matured physically at 9. He is a medium weight about 9.5 bone. I bout him at 3 and he stood 16hh. His passport said he was to make 16.3 He did - and then a couple more inches. Now stands at 17'1

He might grow upwards but I suspect the size/fit of the saddle depends more on his level of fitness than his height. In the absence of saddle fitters I got a Heather Moffatt back saver pad which has memory foam and does a really good job of filling in the spaces under A's saddle where it 'bridges'. Perhaps you could try something like that until Beau is fit?

Thanks for that, its nice to have something to compare too,.

Well Beau has almost 11 inches of bone, Im hoping he is finished height wise now, I think it looks more noticeable because he was so skinny before.

well his previous owner paid a lot of money for him, bought him to do affiliated dressage, rode him for about 5 months, then left him in a field for a year.

The mind boggles!

Our gain though,I love him to pieces.

My WB x was 14.1hh when he just turned 4, he's now 5 and 15hh, and growing, and gone from a narrow gullet to a wide in 6 months! I don't mind how big he grows, but am thinking about a WOW as his shape is changing so much! A few people have told me he's got another few years of growing to do
