Do we get too attatched to our animals?

I do. I dearly love my animals and they give such a lot back. I don't consider it as being too attached though. Most animals give back in spades what ever they are given as well. The downside however, is the awful grief you face when you do lose a much loved pet, be it horse, dog whatever. To me, unless you want to completely isolate yourself, then you will at some point lose who or whatever you love and that is the price you have to pay. I have a very large and extended family and they understand just how much my animals mean to me.

I do! Lost my dog last year (he was the first dog of my own that wasn't a family pet). Had him from 8 weeks old till he was pts a week before his 15th birthday. I cried at the thought of losing him years before I actually did but when the day came I took comfort from knowing that I did the right thing and that he was ready to go. He didn't suffer and I was with him till the end.

I love all my animals and are very attached to them but I do believe that the last thing you do for them is let them go when it's time for them, I have grown up with my cob (I was 16 he was 6) he's always been there and I don't know what I'll do when he's not here anymore, he's 20 now and last year was the first time I'd been away for a whole week and left him :-/ phoned home every night to see if he was ok!!
