Do we give up on horses too easily?

Depends. There was a little girl on the yard who was so unsuited to her pony, it was frightening her. Mum sold pony and bought a new one, and now they're flying over 70cm courses! Old pony is also doing better in it's new home. Sometimes people and ponies just don't match.

However, soooooooo many people told me to give up and sell Ned, sometimes before he was even mine LOLOL! I knew it wasn't a case of mismatched horse and ride, it was a frightened horse who needed love. He's been harder than I like to admit, he's made me cry too may times, but it's been worth it! It's taught me patience, among other things and it's given him a life he wouldn't have otherwise had. Although we're having a confidence crisis at the moment, I don't think it'll last. In fact, I'm not going to let it last!!

I think it's so individual, you couldn't generalise at all.

I think some people do give up too early but others make the correct decision really. I know my horses last owner got rid of him after owning him for 6 years because they just didn't gel. He wouldn't do anything for her. He is like that though if he doesn't like someone he won't behave for them.

I have had moments where i think i have out horsed myself even recently. But in reality while some on here may think he isn't right for me he is. Even my instructor has now said he is perfect for me and this was after our first lesson where he kept spinning and scaring me and the instructor told me to sell him. We are now working through his issues with the arena to get him happier in there.

My only issue I think I may get with him is that as he gets stronger and fitter I am not sure I can manage to ride him correctly as he is already difficult with his powerful movement. But i will just have to get fitter and see how we go.
