I have just started using wood pellets after always using straw. I do like them but don't like that they go a brown colour. I like the bed to be on the white side. is there anything that I could be doing to make this happen or is it just inevitable? I take the poo out every day and the wee out every couple of days, trying to be careful not to get any wet mixed up with the good clean stuff. is there any brand of wood pellets that stay white for longer?
thanks

I used Five Star bedding then switched to Woodlets and noticed the Woodlets went brown far quicker than the five star. I found the five star stayed whiter for longer but I think all wood pellet bedding goes brown to a certain degree. It is different to having a white bed of shavings!

Buy a bale of shavings, and add a little onto the top of the pellet bed. Aesthetically, it looks much nicer, and the bale will last for ages :)

How many sacks of bedding are you using a week? I find that I have to use 3 x 15kg sacks per week for an average horse if I want the bed to stay pale. You have to take a lot more out than instructed for a nice pale coloured bed. Even so, with some horses (like my mare) it doesn't stay nice looking. She digs and rolls, digs and rolls grrrr! I am going to try miscanthus bedding for her this winter. I don't know how long that will stay nice for. If it's no longer than pellets, then I will go back to pellets because they're cheaper. My old mare only needed 1.5 sacks of pellets per week for her bed to stay really nice and clean, but she was a very tidy girl.

Mine go greyish as they are due a new bag. I do a full muck out every day, my boy is generally clean and doesn't wee every day. I would say I use 1 x 15kg a week but I also have good quality rubber mats down
