Occasionally I use shavings. However my boy is very predictable as soon as he enters the lorry he poo's. This is like clock work so I now keep a bucket at hand and and he kindly drops it straight in lol
Pee always occurs on the journey home after work. Within 5 mins he will pee again directly in to the bucket
Makes cleaning the lorry very easy believe it or not !
Nope. Once I've cleared out any poo (they never wee in lorry), I put the hay that's fallen out of nets over it to soak up any damp and sweep out next day.
I never did, but after having to wash out the lorry 2 weeks running after Roo weed, i now have a small patch of shavings to catch it. (Since putting in the shavings he hasnt weed in there... go figure!)
Oh ETA - did have a thick straw bed when I first travelled my foal until he got used to it.
We use wood pellets in ours. The horses are often in the lorry for 6 hours plus, and needless to say 6 horses can make it mighty disgusting in that time! - wood pellets are so absorbant that not only do they stop the urine running but also stops it damaging the lorry floor. We don't use bedding in the trailer though cos that can just be swilled out with a bucket of water if it gets too mucky.
