Do you actually know other posters and if you do/did does it affect what you post?

I dont (as far as i know!) know any one else on this forum in "real life".
I like it this way as i can be completely honest about things i may be struggling with ie- in the past and to an extent now at times confidence. Or just the ability to ask those numpty questions that really i should know the answer too!
Im an experienced horse owner/handler and people seem to assume i know everything (often asked advice which is nice and i try to help) but who struggles slightly with the ridden side of things sometimes but id hate anyone to know that!
So i come here! ask away and get good advice whilst keeping up appearances in day to day life!
I also think often probably people are the other way round on the net- I know someone who is fairly novice but classes herself as an eventer online! Just made me wonder!

I know a few members on here but am not sure if they know who I am

Most are genuine but one gives herself airs and graces and boasts about her lifestyle and horses which she does indeed have but I do know that she has to be persuaded to trot if she ever gets on a horse!

Yes I do know other posters on here. Some I knew before I came on here/knew they posted on here and others I have met since coming on here.

The thing is, I always post what I would say/ask in real life anyway. If I'm having a problem doing something it wouldn't bother me to ask someone in real life but as I have my lot at home now, sometimes it's easier to ask on here.

I am occasionally quite  at some of the things people post, especially in soapbox and when they make no effort to conceal their identity. But then I also wouldn't discuss a lot of those things even with close friends anyway.

Yes!

I know 2 people from an art site and facebook. I feel I know them well enough to tell them to "man-up" and when to be sympathetic :) Though one doesn't really post any more.

I've had someone else come and ride Neddy, I have nothing but praise for her and I don't think I could ever help her with anything, but if she posts in one of my threads, I know I'm going to listen 100% as she's ridden Ned and seen me ride him too!

I do. They don't change how I post.

What does is several people I know who probably have accounts and I wouldn't want things known. Never post something too controversial if it got out as fully expect that someone would guess it was me and who about. Mad some of the things people post on here in detail about work/yards.

I know a few people on here "properly". They don't affect what I post, as I have nothing to hide from them, nor any desire to mislead other forum users.

I do moderate yard-related comments on the forum, though, as it's a small world and an open forum ;)

Oooh, I thought you meant does it change how I give them advise/talk to them.

Then no, I post what I want and I don't care who knows what. I've got nout to hide!

EDIT: That said, I do most of the time try and hide the identities of my friends/people I know. I don't care who knows me, but my friends might not want to be known on here.

I have met loooads of people from on here. They're all lovely.

Doesn't change what I write though as I tend not to make stuff up anyway ;)

Not that I definitely know of, but I suspect there probably are. I don't post anything I wouldn't say to someone's face or haven't already said, so whether someone recognizes me from my posts is irrelevant. That said, anything that happened a while back I'd be vague with the details if it was negative. Eg a nightmare fellow livery from 5yrs ago I would be vague about so even if they recognized themselves from my post, nobody else would. I say enough about my life that if any regular poster knew me in rl they'd recognize me. But not enough specifics for someone to find me on a search, or to show up on Google. Which I have my own reasons for. Wouldn't mind if a regular poster recognized me though.

I've met a fair few people from here, and that doesn't change what I write or how I write it. Similarly I know a couple of people on here from a non HHO capacity, and that doesn't effect how I am on the forum either.

I got spotted at a show once completely out of the blue :) Was lovely to have someone to natter to.

Other people I've said what my plans are and then someone else has said they're going to be there too so I've kept an eye out. I like meeting peeps off here :)

This.

I don't know any other posters before HHO but I have got friendly with a few over the years.

It doesn't matter if I know anyone and it doesn't effect how I post. I always post in the manner in which I would speak to someone in real life.

I know a few HHO'ers in 'real life'. I am always careful not to be rude about someone or name names just in case. But then I would never be rude to anyone in 'real life' either.

My Granny used to say 'Beware your lies will find you out'. So I try not to exaggeration or give myself skill that I clearly don't possess!

I "know" some from COTH. My stepmom also browses both COTH and here occasionally. But I'm like others, no point in posting if you're going to hide info or pretend you're something you're not. I know I don't have a fancy sig line with my horses but I hate adding pics to another site and then have to try and upload here. So if I'm not believed you're more than welcome on Facebook to have a look through.

I only know one person on here and we yard share and she is a good friend so it does not affect what I post etc as I would probably discuss anything i post with her anyway :)

Ahhh go on. Show us a picture. I love looking at other people's horses :)

I've just reinstated my siggy as my posts just looked wrong without it!

I know a couple of people on here in RL - one doesn't know who I am I don't think & I often laugh to myself about some of the more suspect 'elaborations of the truth'! Not sure about the other one TBH but again her posts make it sound like she can walk the walk when in actual fact she can't but talks the talk very well indeed!!!!!! :D
I am also FB friends with a couple of very lovely HHOer's but unfortunately we've yet to meet in RL!
I think my posts are pretty open & honest to be fair, knowing others doesn't affect what I write.

I do know a few posters, and quite a few more as FB 'friends'. I dont have anything to hide, and dont make it up. I dont bitch about the yard as to be fair I dont know if any fellow liveries are on here, as its a small yard.

I've met some people from here.....all relatively normal;)

I don't think theres anyone out there that knows me from elsewhere.....but I always read posts where people say ' I recognise so-and-so and she's a total twonk in RL' and I think.....Oh god, hope thats not me.:D:D

I don't lie anyway.....that takes too much remembering:p

yes, I do, but they don't know I'm on here. Not hiding anything, just never brought it up. One is a lady who keeps her lovely horses just behind my house (and is every but as experienced as she says she is) and another is the YO down the road. It would be hard to live in this part of the world and not recognise someone from on here.

ETA: no, it wouldn't change what I post. I don't care if they recognise me or not.

I know quite a few posters on here. I am exactly the same on here as I am in the real world.
In fact - thanks to HHO I have made some really special friends and we all try and meet up whenever we can (we are from all over the country).

The thing is, we forget how many people are similar in rl. More than once I've thought I recognized someone, or their horse. Eg their horses description fits, riding history, a few personal details etc & I've thought they were exaggerating a few things. It's only when I've looked more closely I realise its a completely different person.
