Do you add salt to your horse's dinner?

What salt do you give your horse and how much a day?? Do you give this all year round or just during the hot (ish) summer? Any help much appreciated. They do have salt licks which one might pick at and the other won't touch!

My sisters horse gets Kossolian Blood salts as this seems to help him. Mine gets these salts if he is doing lots of work as tends to sweat a lot and get very lethargic. Also have salt licks in the field, and mud next to a natural spring that they seem to like.
 
mine has a salt lick in his stable and table salt in his dinner - i feed him spillers mix and it says on the back to add salt to their diet. they cant add it to the feed as it attracts water and makes it go off.

how much are you supposed to feed them?
 
I've found most horses will "self medicate" thier salt needs if you give them the access to licks etc. Unless they've just come home dripping in sweat and all frothed up, then they'll get some in their tea. Our main aditive at the moment is garlic! Damn flys! Oh and a broad spectrum vit and min as 3 of the boys are getting under recomended amounts of mix, the other is getting nearly twice the recomended amount... he may be over doing it! lol
 
I was told by Topspec to add one tea spoon of salt if he's sweated up just under saddle and a tablespoon full if he is sweaty up his neck etc. Seems to be doing the job, I also have a mineral lick in his stable which he still uses on top of this.
