Do you always need x rays/vetting for insurance?

We have a horse for my daughter who we bought and insured last year. He has had 12m insurance for death/theft £15k and £10k ish vets bills (need to check that). The insurer took our 5 stage vetting without x rays at the time for the policy and we paid £1400. Included him being evented to BE100. My question is with regards shopping around… will every insurer now want fresh x rays and a vetting even though we just had 12 months of not claiming? Does £1650 a year premium seem a lot? The policy was and would be with Howdens. Thanks all.

It usually depends on the value of the horse as to whether x-rays are required for insurance.

Are you looking to swap insurers? If yes, they are likely to want a new vetting and possibly x-rays. If you are just renewing your existing policy I have never had to have a new vetting before.

The cost of insurance is largely related to the value of the horse.

I've never had to have a horse re-vetted to change insurers. The only time it's been required has been for the first time I insured them after purchase. If your current insurers didn't require x-rays it's also likely that future ones won't.
