Why is it every Christmas the same people arrange the Yard Christmas Dinner,so far I have managed to loose 80 quid of the deposit money, due to the Pub refusing to take the deposit as the owner was not there, then the booking was not put down for the day requested with a member of staff and on the night we went in to pay the bl**dy deposit and have a meal,my friend found a hair in the bowl of chips that went with her steak and so did ChristmasSparkle(PMSL at hers!

)I thought this is pure aggro....now have to sort out what every one wants,so I'm 40 quid down as my friend and I have split the loss as we both arrange this each year and had to go to a different Pub....Do you have a Yard do,and do you sort it...... _OC_ Starting to think Why Oh why do I do this to myself each year !!!!!!!!!!

Simple answer OC - just don't do it anymore! It's not worth the stress or the hassle! If people are that desperate to have a yard Christmas dinner, someone else will organise it. And, let's face it, it's someone else's turn!!! Sounds like you've done your fair share!

I am orgainsing ours again this year.
Last year we only had 12 goers so not too bad to organise.
This year we have 40 so is prooving a little harder to get menu choices and deposits.
Stupid me thought I was organised and had crossed people off who had paid and now I am finding people saying they have paid when I don't think they have. So now I am £20 short on the deposit and will have to fund it myself.
Definatly not doing it next year. Grrrrrrrr

We had one at my old yard once which the owners organised... the next year the liveries (all 5 of us!) went out after xmas instead

Erm I would of demanded my deposit back off the pub on the grounds that I didnt want to eat hairy food again...... or i would of threatened trading standards.....

YO sorts ours out, takes a deposit from everyone and collects the rest we days before the night, if you don't turn up then you are the one out of pocket not the organiser.

We are having an ex yard Christmas meet up in the pub. I was the last one to leave when the yard shut down in Sept 2005, but we keep in touch a bit, and are all going to the pub next week for a few drinks and a gossip!

If anyone wants food they can organise it on the night!

Yes I organise our yard Xmas dinner and have done for a few years but in recent years we take it in turns and choose different venues each time. Only 15-20 of us and we know each other well. By taking it in turns and keeping it low key, no hassles.

But one yard I was at, I started to organise it and the yard manager stuck her oar in and started asking other people but didn't tell me. The pub couldn't fit them all in and I left it to her to explain to some of those she'd invited. I told her to do the entire arrangement herself in future and left her to it, I was pretty cross and she knew it. Had to smile though when I heard her making excuses to those she'd invited. Unfortunately, we'd have lost a large deposit if we'd moved venue and it wasn't fair on the pub landlord.
