Do you and your horse carry ID whilst out?

An incident at the weekend has got me thinking!
Friends were out hacking this weekend and found a tacked-up loose horse. They were on a bridleway near a busy A road. They caught it fine but then didn't know what to do with it! Luckily my YM was with them and phoned around and found out who's it was and from what yard. They had to wait 25 mins before someone could pick-up the rider (who was fine) and come and collect the horse.
It got me thinking - if I came off no one would know which yard Aran is at or who to contact - and if I was unconcious they wouldn't know who I was etc!
Do you carry ID on both you and your horse? If so what type of ID and how do you carry it?
 
I usually have something on my with my name on it - and one of the horses is freezemarked, so that is easy, must get round to attaching something to the saddle of the other one though
 
i have a name tag like what you put on you dogs collar on bridle and saddle with his name on one side hubbys number on otherside also have a tag like what you put on keys that you can write on, on his saddle with horse name my name contact number. on it.
 
No! but now I think I should... when we go to RC hacks or trec competitions we need to have a tags on horse and rider so I could just use those

My saddle and bridle have discs (like dogs wear) that have the address/telephone number of the livery yard and my mobile number on them.

I always carry my phone which has ICE on it.
 
there are some bands like those rubber wristbands you get, and you write on them your details and they slip on leg over gee's hoof

Both me and my horse have a waterproof note saying who we are, where we live, emergency contact numbers, vet, farrier, dentist nos and allergies...just in case!
 
I have my medical card and bracelet with me, as if there was an emergency and I wasn't conscious they'd need to know about my history. That has contact numbers on it but Osc doesn't have anything, maybe I should get him a dog tag
 
I carry my phone when I go out and I haven't thought about putting something on my horse before but will definitely do that now as I hadn't thought of anything like that before, whoops. It makes such sense. Thank you

I also have dog tags on my saddle & bridle. These have her name, my mobile number, emergency contact and vet number. A local market stand guy did them for me and they are really good (cheap!) and small as well. When I was younger my Mum always used to make me go out with my details, her & the yards written on a piece of paper in my pocket just in case. Really good idea. One horse on an old yard was hit by a car after his rider fell off- the details on his bridle tag allowed the people who found him to call the yard & the vets to help him- in fact the vet said that having been called out quickly probably saved the horse as he was bleeding heavily.

me too, i used to have dogtags on everything, phone number changed and i never got new done. have been meaning to when i go past the tag place, but its one of those things i havent got round to, will do it this week.
 
I have a dog tag on my saddle and bridle with yard name, number, my humber, OH's number etc. I also have my phone in my pocket and with my important numbers saved as ICE and the yard as YARD so it's nice and clear - but hey I'm a worrier!
 
I have dogtags on all my saddles, bridles and rugs with the horse's name and a phone number. They were only 99p each from ebay so a real bargain

Well Im fine living on a small island, everyone knows me and my pony and if he escapes/runs they will know who he is and he cant go far. Happened twice before but he went up to the old stables one time and my house the other. He is so predictible just goes where he is used to being fed

Ive also driven up a road with my mum driving and found a horse with no rider galloping down the road. I was in an unfamiliar area so got out, caught the horse and walked him to a stable yard i had seen about half a mile back, mum drove on to see if she could find the rider.
Luckily at the yard they recognised the horse well enough to phone the yard it came from and lots of people went out looking for the girl, she had come off and was sitting at the side of the road, was found by my mum rather spaced out, mum thinks she had hit her head quite hard, ambulance was duely called, people from her yard came and got the horse, but god only knows what would have happened if we hadnt found the horse or the girl or if the yard i walked it to hadnt recognised the horse.

On my saddle i have one of those dog tags attached by a keyring to the d ring of the saddle, its got the ponies name on one side and mums mobile number on the other (someone will allways answer mums mobile even if it isnt mum, there isnt always someone at home). I carry my phone on me and it has got contacts on it labeled MUM, HOME, ICE and MUM mobile.
I sometimes carry my purse with me that has lots of ID in it.
 
You know what? I think about doing this a lot.
I am now putting it on my list of things to do.

I think I will attach a tag to my saddle with a phone number on it.
I really should carry my medical armband too.

Hmm, this post and all the comments on it have just inspired me to order a dog tag on ebay with his name, yard and yard phone no, vets no and my mobile too (so they can phone me when I am lying in a big heap to let me know my pony is ok

). Hopefully it will NEVER get used, but I'll feel better with it on!
