Do you bite your tongue with some posters?

As a non rider/horse owner who is only involved at a distance through my grandaughter, I am amazed at the wealth of knowledge and experience available on this forum. I'm learning a lot and reading all your replies to questions has made me better able to understand what the hell daughter/grandaughter/son in law are all talking about (and I can even join in the discussions sometimes) - so thank you.
Please don't give up having your say, I really appreciate all the different opinions.

Sadly, it happens in RL too,and you have to be tactful what you say! TBH you can't just say it happens on here....it goes on in the real world to!

TBH if i have had experience of the problem i say what i found worked or not, i dont get offended by peoples opposing veiws and try not to be agressive.

LOL at 1500 posts being a newbie! I know on here its alot, but that is alot of typing!

I dont bite my tongue. Usually someone has said something I wanted to say and as I have minimal typing skills, I just think Oh well and click out of the post.

Actually, I wish you could just click irritating people away in RL with a mouse.

Sometimes I shout at the screen.
If I dont like something I'll either say so or keep quiet- why do people post nice comments about something so obviously wrong?!!
 
I have to admit i have absolutely no tact - i am the same in real life. I don't see the point in beating around the bush, if i have an opinion i will share it. If i don't like something or don't agree with something then i will express that. I have a complete inability to bite my tongue lol

Others I find a tad patronising with some of their criticisms in the gallery etc. On the whole though, I just don't bother offering what little advice I could (which isn't alot) to people I just know, from previous experience, wouldn't act upon it.
 
Sometimes it is easier not to post something as you know it will start a fight, you also know that you are not the only person thinking it and sooner or later someone else will post what you are thinking anyway.

Also because others have their own agendas and would ignore any advice from whoever gave it..
Probably the nearest description would be someone who has read a book on "how to" do something and sticks to that method rigidly even though it's detrimental to their horse. They post on here they are having problems, lots of good replies get posted, then they reply that because the book doesn't endorse those methods, they won't try them.. arghhhhhhh.... then I want to make them open their minds to there are always more than just one way of doing things...

But its OK 'fighting' with you as it is an intelligent dicussion and quite fun, and also you can actually learn from something from the scientific viewpoint.

a) I don't think I'm qualified/experienced enough to give advice/an opinion
b) Someone has already said what I was going to (unless it was something rather amusing/intelligent and then I'll try to nick a bit of credit!!

Yes would agree with that.....alot of keeping a horse is common sense.....met a few who say this book says blah,blah.....but,it does not work with your horse and quite clearly needs a different approach.......at this point I just don't bother!

I do try and post helpful stuff and most of the time I try and word things with reasonable tact but there does come a point where bluntness spills over!

Then there are the days when many posts just make me think 'Oh FFS' ! Thats when I usually step away from the keyboard

One of the joys of getting older is that you can be rude under the guise of either character, hormones or senility!
 
If something really concerns me then I will say so, but most of the time people don't agree with me so now I hardly bother.

I would prefer people to be honest with me and I always take away what people say. If I disagreed with some advice someone gave to me, I would just thank them and ignore it.
 
Sometimes I feel like telling certain people on here what I think but generally try to keep it to myself as it’s just not worth the hassle. I try to keep to the rule, if I can’t say anything nice I just don’t post.

I think you have to be really careful - the written word can be so much stronger than the spoken word, and it is there for all to see. One person will read a comment differently from another, so I think it is preferable to err on the side of caution.

Now that I never understand. You see, all this "if you can't say anything nice then don't say it at all" is all well and good when you are talking about a dress, or the colour of eye make-up.......

. When discussing horses, we are talking about another LIVE being here - such terrible mistakes occur with some people trying to do what they think is right, when it very clearly isn't! My thoughts on the "keeping quiet brigade" is are you sure you have the horse's best interests in mind when you sit and say nothing?

First and foremost, my thoughts are for the horse; and that's why I never shy away from saying what I think.
