Do you buy H&H?

Bought it weekly for years but not any more, unless it's a big event follow-up. Mum randomly bought me a copy a couple of weeks ago & I was not impressed with either the cover price or sheer number of pages of ads. There's not enough in it anymore to justify it as a weekly imho

When I was living in the UK I used to buy it every week, even though it would annoy me at how thin it was on times:) especially in the new year when with not much to put you'd think they expand on the boxing day meets coverage but now it only seems a few of the big name hunts get :( Also find that a lot of the articles end up on line a few days after it cmes out anyway so I don't miss out by not getting it anymore:)

I buy it every week without fail - used to subscribe but found the delivery too unreliable so now I get mine from the village shop at 7 am every Thursday.

We used to have a subscription, but gave it up when my sister and I went off to Uni, as we were the only ones that read it. I occasionally buy it before Badminton etc. to get the course preview, but otherwise I don't bother. I only want the dressage and eventing reports anyway, and tbh I don't need to pay for the privilege. The news is available online (and quite frankly it's more up to date), and I can look up competition results online as well, and most riders report on their own website or Horsehero etc. so it seems pointless to buy it!

Have it on subscription but noticed last week it doesn't save beggar on cost at all - I'm like Weezy though - don't want to cancel in case I miss something!

Saying that I think I will cancel it then get it in Sainsbury's each week and see if I bother - presume you just ring to cancel??

I used to buy it every week now only if there is something worth looking at. Its a shame as i used to pour over it from cover to cover, all the repots and looking at all the horses for sale and thinking i would find my perfect horse when i got one. When i came to looking for a new horse i didnt look in the mag once.
The reports are pretty rubbish now, before there used to be small reports from the more 'local' aff shows. I miss those as i could aspire to get my name in H&H, now its the same people in there most weeks.
Plus i rather spend my money on other things.

No, it's too expensive and just full of adverts. The way it has gone downhill is awful. Sometimes a headline on the front cover will catch my eye and make me buy it, but it usually turns out to be a tiny little comment! It's quite bad when you compare H&H from now, to a copy from years ago.

Nope never have bought it, well maybe once or twice.......

Don't find much to read in it. Generally whichever horse magazine I buy I end up wondering why I bother.......

Love the forum though!

Have subscribed for years, daughter and I used to fight over it on a Thursday. Recently it sits unopened on the side for days, it is really only laziness that has stopped me cancelling my subscription.

Cancelled my subscription last year. Like some one else said the price kept going up but the content kept going down.

Used to read it cover to cover but now I find it really boring; it's rare they have a really interesting feature or interview these days.

I'll pick it up in the supermarket sometimes but won't be renewing my subscription unless there was a massive over haul and rethink. Would pick H&H over Your Horse or Horse & Rider any day though.

I subscribe to Horse and really like their Masterclass features and the interviews but I am considering cancelling it as I'm fed up of the "fashion" pages. Funnily enough I don't want to see £395 mini dresses advertised in horse magazines not to mention all the other expensive and highly impractical tatt that has been in the past 4 issues that bears little or no relevance to horse owners!! It's brightened up it's colours but dumbed down it's content. Rant over...

During the 5 years I've been out of the UK I've missed reading it very much, however OH bought me a years subscription for my birthday last year and now I've got a cupboard full of magazines, mostly unread and a large majority of them still in their packets.

Everything wrong has already been said, content and reports are lightweight and it's mostly adverts. The best thing these days is the 'From the Archives' picture on the inside of the back cover!

I won't be renewing my subscription.

My mum used to for years, I was more into my other horse mags, used to think H&H was a bit.....dare I say it....tad boring but were going back quite a long time ago here, but I really enjoy reading it now, sometimes there is the odd week when I don't get it, just forget sometimes, but I'ven been stocking up on wedding mags lately and they can be £5.00 a pop!

any chance that HHo will relay our comments on to the big boys? If anyone is interested, I have lots of HandH's from the eighties, absolutely filled with equestrian journalism-not a wabbit in sight! if interested, pm me. I will send them to you without charge if you pay the postage.

I used to buy it every now and again and then subscribed for a year. Over that period I found the magazine got thinner and the content of less interest to me. Plus I never seemed to have the time to sit and read it properly. I cancelled my subscription and have probably only bought one copy since. Its too expensive now for a weekly magazine.

I used to subscribe and got fed up with it being on the shop shelves before it came through the post. I then started buying it occasionally but only for the SJing snippets and when i found I could read the bits of interest in 10 mins stopped buying it.

Its expensive for the reading it offers imo.

This :(.

I used to love it but find it's just too full of stuff that isn't of interest. And alot of adverts for the size of the magazine!

I think you're right there but, in fairmess, I think the content: cost ratio used to be seriously good and is now merely average, rather than the content now being very poor relative to cost. It is getting a little pricey for what it contains now though....

I subscribe - really enjoy having it on the doormat when I get home on a Thursday. Whilst completely accepting that it is 'H&H' mag, I am not at all pro fox hunting, though I am interested in the draghound and bloodhound packs, so I don't care about the hunting reports and much prefer it through the summer with all the show and event commentaries. I think it does trade on reputation though, I would never cancel it just because it is ' Horse and Hound' and I would feel I was missing out/out of touch if I didn't subscribe!

My newsagent orders a copy for me every week, but I don't sub as it's rather expensive :(

I've progressed from PONY mag , to Horse&Rider now on to H&H! I like the reports in H&H, and all the pretty horses for sale that I can't have :(

It's getting thinner all the time! And more expensive!!

I find that I can flick through the few items of interest in a couple of minutes during my weekly trip round Sainsburys!!
