Do you buy your horse a christmas present?

No.. I get out of that by not telling them that it is Christmas:) I did try that with my daughter, it didn't work. :(

Mine have always got extra carrots etc in breakfast. thier doors woukd have tinsel on (and before anyone screams out of reach of mouths) and i would stand and sing we wish you a merry xmas.Did they understand? Nope but by heck it was fun esp with daughters ponies when she was little. and thats what its about. Fun :) x

No, but YO does :). Each horse/pony gets a little goodie bag from YO with carrots, horse treats, polos, etc. Such a lovely tradition :).

Kal does get some Guinness in his evening feed - not much, just a tad. Other than that, I tend to feel that pretty much every day is Christmas Day for him - he lives the life of flipping riley - jammy so and so.

P

Nope as I've spent a fortune over the last two months buying him an entire wardrobe of rugs (he only came with tack and none of my old ones fit him) and am now paying for a 6 week course of physio and a new saddle. Treats are also out of the question as he becomes a bolshy thug when treated.

Tbh at this rate my own family will be lucky if they get presents!

I am so excited to buy my girl a christmas pressie! This will be the first christmas where I have my own horse so she will be getting spoiled and me and my partner will be up super early on christmas day to give her christmas cuddles - can you tell I dont have kids?! haha!

I echo what someone else said - all my presents will probably be for her too!

Most of the presents I receive from people are for the horses anyway depending on what I/they need (boots/rugs/tack etc).

I don't buy anything extra for them, but they do get a few carrots and/or swede with their normal feeds. It is a requirement that they wear tinsel on their head collars/bridles (if ridden), much to their disgust.....

Yep. Possibly sad, but true!

He gets an advent calander in the run up to Christmas & usually gets a stocking with apples, carrots & other treats too.

I go to Olympia so usually get a little something - new headcollar or saddle cloth or something.

Obviously he doesn't get all his food treats in one go - they usually last him weeks/months after!

Absolutely ... normally its a new saddle cloth or something similar - last year it was a new body brush. Not sure what it will be this year

Oo yes will definitely be getting her something!
Maybe a nice deep purple numnah and brushing boots set to match her ear bonnet and exercise sheet :D

I love MrsMozarts idea though, giving spare pennies to charity for ponies who lives aren't as cushty as mine.

Yes my horses get lots of presents like matchy and rubbish they don't need! They also pick there Xmas presents to buy me (obviously I help them lol) last year they got me ariats and pikeur clothes! Clever ponies lol

I don't get pony anything myself, he just gets a couple of swedes. His favourite! But my family and OH and in laws all say im a pain to buy for so last year pony got a new bridle, new martingale with hunting attachment, new headcollar and leadrope, new indoor heavyweight and under rug, new matchy feed buckets and water buckets and haynets and a new wheelbarrow! I also got jodphurs, sno thermal boots, a body warmer and a thelwell pony original sketchbook print :-) so pony does well enough out of my Christmas presents! OH said im never to sell pony purely on that basis haha.

When I was a kid, I remember one Christmas reading an article in PONY magazine with instructions on how to make a horsy Xmas pudding. It involved mixing chaff, chopped carrots, polos and pony nuts, and sticking a spoonful of treacle in and mixing it to hold it in a pudding shape.

I thought this was great, and my friend and I decided to tip half a tin each of treacle into our ponies' feed buckets on Xmas eve. Ponies LOVED it, have never seen muckier, sticker, happier faces. However were also actually twitching from sugar by the time they were turned out.

Obviously we were kids who didn't really think through what we were doing, and looking back I shudder and am very glad ponies didn't get treacle-colic, but I still like the Xmas pudding idea - only now I make it with sugar beet rather than treacle, so it looks less pudding-y, but is much less of a sugar rush.
