I'm very lucky I have my pony who is out in 20 acres with a stream (shes muzzled) and for the sake of a small token feed she comes to call to the gate :) depending whose in yard I either then catch and bring in or just open the gate and she follows me in, at walk.

So what do you have to do go out and catch or call to the gate.

For the big fields, bellow and shake buckets. Reg comes up anyway though, like a soppy dog, but smaller fields we meet them half way!

Ebony... I used to have to chase around the field sometimes... Ben comes trotting over to call, if he isn't already by the gate :D

They come to call, or me banging the metal gate, or the sound of the quad, or even just the feed bin lid being opened.

If they don't come they don't get fed, newbies soon figure it out.

I certainly do not go to fetch them. It is very rare that one will get left behind in the stampede, then I will go to check that all is OK. I still don't walk though, why walk when I have a quad?;) Lazy old bint that I am :)

Ella and Lola come so fast that it is wise to stand several feet away from the gate to avoid divots and mud when they slide to a halt. :D

Most of the livery horses come to their owner's call, it always amuses me to see just one or two horses break from the herd when they are called, the others ignore those calls. When I call everything comes, usually at the gallop, bucket love :D

During winter they have either been loitering by the gate or have madly galloped down as soon as they see me. Last night, the grass must be worth eating at last, called and they just lifted heads and looked, walked up field and just about got to them and they all decided to race to the gate. I think we might be getting close to full turn out time yippeeeeeeee !! Six months of mucking out is wearing a little thin now.

As soon as mine clocks me coming across the yard she is at the gate. I have always found it odd as she is only 9 months now and from day 1 did this with me. It's a nice feeling though as if there are 3 of us she will come to me.

I used to have a border collie that would hare off into 25 acres and about 5 nins later return with my horse cantering behind having left the other horses to follow the dog back to the gate. I was never sure if it was a case of "clever dog" or "clever horse".

A mixture of both.... at the moment they will come to call, but usually they will walk halfway and go back to eating while waiting for me to go get them!

Im another that bellows like a fish wife across the field.:o

Throughout the winter they have been waiting by the gate, however now the grass is coming through they are at the other end of the field

Asha ( lead mare) will gallop over, and they all follow, always in the same order.

Asha, then her son(Harry), her daughter (Aria). Closely followed by daughters TB, then the 2 remaining just amble up behind.

Harry is now the boss of his mum, and will allow his sister in through the gate first, then he comes in.

My girl comes to shout - she usually comes running as soon as the car gets on the yard and stands and shouts for me until I fetch her

Mine can see me driving along the road so is usually at the gate by the time I have parked outside the main gate. If, however I park the car inside the main gate she knows that in all probability she is going to be ridden and ignores me.

If its feeding time, they're both at gate.
If its not feeding time, one will come to gate. the other will slowly meander over but I might have to walk 6 feet to get her.
No shouting, no letting them walk by themselves to their stables.

At the moment mine comes to call, at a sensible pace, no cutting up the ground. If she sees my car she comes to the gate and waits.

However when there is more grass I'm sure thst it will be back to me calling her and her hastily stuffing herself with more grass while pretending she can't hear me which results in me havibg yo walk up the hill to get her, when I get yo her she will look at me all surprised like"oh Good grief it's you, did you call?"

On their routine mine are easy peasy. However I'm about to go out and catch the 2 mares to ride. They see me they know what's up. I stand while they run around bucking and kicking. When settled the mint wrapper does it every time. When they go out at night I have no issues in this regard. But for now they're on the sacrafice paddock bored to tears. So this is their bit of fun.

Go in quietly and get them.

Really annoys me on a yard when people stand and yell for their own horse, then get the entire lot in their field and the next galloping hysterically round and skidding up to the gate.

Go and get them, you lazy s0ds.

Ours are at home so no problem with any-one else's coming in as well. They know the routine and will be at or near the gate all year round. We usually have to call, and occasionally in summer we have to go to them, when we want to ride/do anything else out of routine. We open the gate and they go into their own stables, one at a time.

I shout them, they look at me like I'm an idiot, I go and catch them lol, although if I'm a bit late then they're usually by the gate

Mine canters to the gate as soon as she sees my car in the lane. If in the far field and I call she will be by the gate by the time I get there. She doesn't come for other people and the other horses don't come when I call her.
