Do You Care....

LOL!! Thanks Holly. I do honestly look after my horses all myself but just like to be clean!!

My babies even have swarovski crystal saddlecloths for everyday use!!

I'm sad I know!

I popped into a local shop the other evening - there was this very elegant slim girl also shopping there in nice german jods, immaculate shiny boots, clean hands.....then i looked at myself..the usual wisps of hay, odour of horse, slightly overheated with recent exertion, really rank boots..that was when i put up the 'I'm not cut out for horses' post - it was soooo depressing

I'm confused.....how do you guys manage to get so dirty and smelly?

[/ QUOTE ]

You don't have heavy hairy horses and live in Essex.

Wonderful clay -apparently Essex has the most sticky clay in the country - mine have thick oil covered feather from knees to the floor. When coming in from the field the mud and water covered feather flicks up spraying you from head to toe in mud droplets. My YO now insists on a wearing waterproof suit when bringing in as he hates being dirty.

You spend a lot of time muttering and rubbing sulphur and oil into the legs, having combed out the mud which has a magical ability to cling to anything human.

Finally, big muddy toshs tend to get rubbed clean on your back whilst you are picking out feet. They then flick their tailbags which are also nice and muddy over you when you are at the other end. Picking out feet, unless you have rubber gloves is filthy - lots of dirty wet hair and huge hooves.

7' rugs tend to fall on top of you when throwing them up to the rack.

Cairo produces a lot of pee and poo - even on mats you take out a big barrow a day minimum - and he is a smelly old bugger which again adds to the mud and general backward through hedge look.

And I haven't even ridden yet.

I normally wear black joddies - helps to hide the dirt and a dark fleece or top.

Roll on summer and the end of the mud - I can then get away with wearing the same joddies for a few days without looking like a mud monster.

Lol... I went to see my friend from college the other week. We went to her yard for me to treat neddy then she decided she wanted to pop into town on the way home to buy some shoes for our night out.

Now I was in cords, trainers and smelly fleece so not too pleased at being marched into New Look in the town centre! But..... Kate had Orange jods (sale bargain I hope!!) Blue hiking socks and a fleece that clashed and stunk of wee on!!! Was sooooo funny watching nicely dressed shoppers faces as she paraded up and down in this ensemble and nice heels!!

Thats the type im talking about!!they always look so well put together its sickening!!saying that my life is hectic enough without worrying about what i wear down the yard!!And i have the nicest OH who in an attempt to get involved in my horsey lifestyle (albeit from a safe distance!!) insists on buying me beautiful riding gear- during my clear out last night i found a brand new pair of pikeur full leather seat white breeches still with tags on that i didnt even know i had!!!I should give them to one of the classy girls in my yard they could probably wear them and keep them clean!!I actually wear the same clothes for a few days in a row saves on the washing its bad enough washing nummnahs after 6 horses that hunt twice a week!!

Pikeur white full seat breeches...oh the mess I could make of those!

My OH is also encouraging from a distance and did comment (when I was going through a crisis of confidence. appearance wise) that he didn't mind the mud so much..but would I just spray a bit of Opium before coming home to disguise the horse aroma.......nice!

I couldn't care less what I wear to the yard. It's usually trackies, trainers that are literally falling apart (when it's dry) and a hoodie. And no, I have not received an ASBO for my awful dress or smell of horse!

I look like an absolute horror when I do the horses - doesn't help that I'm actually slightly allergic to the gits - if they slobber on me I come out in a rash; hay makes me sneeze like mad which then makes my eyes into tiny piggy things; I usually wear jeans with about 50 holes in them, or ancient jods that are either black or bright pink - my hair is usually shoved firmly under a cap, and I'm covered in head to toe with mud! Also my jods are these cord type ones which cause every damned bit of hay or straw to stick to them ... I look REALLY attractive when I'm on the yard!

Gosh, no never co-ordinated I'm afraid, although I suppose I may look co-ordinated as the general all-over mud/poo colour matches well.

Used to go and collect my daughter from school in yard clothes as well, in fact once I went along in smart "going out" clothes and she walked right past me!! Now I try and change before doing the school run so I don't look like the scruffiest mum there.

Have decided that this year it is time to co-ordinate for riding though, but couldn't really care less what I wear for mucking out.

Tia, I think it is definately the rain that does it. Last year was quite dry and I stayed pretty clean but once you are wet everything sticks to you. As someone else commented (sorry can't remember who) it's chucking those rugs over the racks that does it - doesn't help that all my horses have hippo in them somewhere.

i really dont care how i look at my yard, go in my pjamas with coat over and big brown boots, in the morning.
grin.gif

Mud and muck just come to me regardless of whether I aim to keep clean!
I am a magnet for hay..... walk past a haynet and I am covered!
I tend to wear jeans, jumper and padded shirt. Always end up looking filthy and smell of horses!
Alway wear clean clothes daily but seems pointless somehow!

In the mornings I get a lift down (really lazy as it's only a minute walk) and often wear my pj's under my scruffiest jeans. Big huge coat and beanie.

In the afternoons I have to do the school run before hand so i tend to stick a brush through my hair and put clean jeans on.

Hilarious!!Non horsey men are so funny!!Mine bought a new car collected me from the yard the other day i still had boots on he made me put my feet in plastic bags so i wouldnt wreck his new car mats!!Though he must love me he never seems to mind the fact that I usually have hair all over me and a sweaty fringe stuck to my forehead from wearing my riding hat!!I think he buys me fancy riding gear because he is harbouring some sort of fantasy involving white jods long boots and a whip!!haha!!I think we need a new clique here for all us scruffy riders!!

Tia please tell me your car is disgusting....please

mine is your not on your own i have to hoover it every week to avoid it looking like my gg's stable on the move!

Hee hee! I am another of the scruffy, non-ironing, tumble dryer-loving brigade.

Having got back into horses only fairly recently I have found that my wardrobe is limited to old jods and assorted general painting clothes.... when I was a sharer I think many of the other liveries may have thought I was some sort of visiting painter-decorator

. Am planning to smarten up *a bit* when I start lessons soon, but the iron will definitely not be leaving it's cupboard!

don't care too much what I look like, I go up after work so I normally still have a little makeup on! Otherwise I just dress for warmth, not really too bothered. Normally just throw on what I was wearing to the yard the day before unless it is caked in mud
grin.gif

OC i have days like that mostly sat and sun when i have the time, in the week i am in a mix or work clothes with shabby trainers and layers cos its so cold in the eves up the yard.

as for the colour co-ordinating thing dont worry your not alone
tongue.gif
the vast majority of my pony stuff is purple or brown.

Hey Tia

think you got it bang on when you said you lived in a Dry climate.

when I do the horse and it's bitterley cold but dry, i am less likely to aquire dirt / mud.

When it's wet and raining, things stick - so you can collect hay / straw / bits on your person!

I have my horse clothes and like them clean and ironed. My mucking out clothes for morning are usually a jogging suit which I will use for a couple of days before throwing in wash. I dont like stinky clothes hanging around the house, and if I have been sweating could'nt bare to put those clothes back on.

Call me fussy, but I have a BO phobia!! I have long hair and am consious that it too may retain the stable smell, so that gets washed a lot as well.

i am the same, have to be clean and tidy hair done ect... and i'm not even on a yard with anyone else!! i keep my horses at home! the only time i'm not is when i'm clipping! also i wont ride out without make up on! my mates take the micky but its only the same as not taking my horse out without grooming him and oiling his feet, but they dont do that either! i do skip out in my pjs at about half 11 everynight though!!

LOL!! No it isn't disgusting....sorry

.

I have a huge pickup truck for all things horsey and everything goes in the bed of the truck.

I guess the biggest thing is that I don't have to walk much further than a few steps to get to any of the horses as all the fields surround our house.

Maybe my wellies smell - I don't know as I leave them out in the dog room and probably blame any smells on them, LOL!!!

Am with the scruffy whatevers handy when I get up brigade!Just not in my nature to be tidy. But clothes do get shoved in washing machine at night.Horses are more presentable than me!Their stuff matches!
Oh and sooooooooooo glad to hear someone else has got a messy car!!

generaly i try not to look TOO bad, but usually i fail and end up looking trampy!

if i am in johds they are usually the ones ive worn all week and are dirty!
*must buy more johds so i can have a pair a day!!!*

my horse on the other hand has to look smart always! even when she has 6 weeks off due to her tongue injury her mane and tail were still pulled and feathers (what little she has) were trimmed!

one of my mates simply has 8 'outfits' and she rotates them!! that way she is always clean and colour co-ordinated!
she swears by primark for tops!
