im clipping my horse this week again and was wondering if you think it would be a good idea to clip his legs as they are always sweating and getting dirty. ta

It's entirely up to you, it's your horse. It wont affect your horse with or without them, except from the sweatiness :) I personally say chop them off, and they'll grow back just in time for summer hopefully :)

i tend to leave my mares legs on till my last clip then take everything off so shes smart for the comp season, she is and irish draught types so her lets just are fluffy enough to look untidy

I always take my horses hair off his legs as it's thick and coarse and horrid quite frankly! lol. He also suffers from dermatitis on his fetlocks and they get hot and horrid so i find taking the hair off (a) helps his legs dry easier so he doesn't get sore and (b) allows me to treat any flare ups a lot easier as I can see what's there.

It's up to you. if he has really hairy legs then it might be better to clip them so that so can keep them cleaner and they can dry quicker. I don't clip my boys legs but they aren't that hairy. Also, I hunt one of my boys and leaving the hair on helps to protect his legs.

It's been hard enough keeping my horse warm as it is without taking his legs off too! I will however take EVERYTHING off in the spring when I do the final clip of the year.

I leave her legs on to protect her against mud as she's out 24/7. I never brush them or wash them and touch wood she's never had a problem yet. The one time I did clip them off she became very cold and her legs were a battle to keep clean and dry when living out.
