Do you enter early or leaving it late?

I organize a sponsered ride in Great Chart, its about 9 weeks away now, and over the years I have ALWAYS got entries in by now. Only a few, but some interest. And the phone would always be ringing with questions.
This year, nothing. Not a thing! No calls and no entries.
So, are people waiting to see what the ground is like and the weather, or are people just not interested in these fun rides any more?

I never enter until about the week before (if I was organised it would be a couple of weeks) and nor do any of my friends - in 9 weeks if I plan anything that early chances are the horse will have broken or I would have by then! Hope you get lots of entries!

I don't think I would ever enter anything 9 weeks before?

Maybe a month before if I had to organise transport?

but for a regular show, ride etc, usually a week or couple of weeks unless it is just a turn up on the day event such as sj.

Ok, I shall chill out and stop panicking that I am gonna be standing in an empty field on the day then!!!!

YAY!!! I enter at the last minute mainly because I'm unorganized :o I sent mine off the week of the ride when I did a pleasure ride last weekend.

Ooooh i live near(ish) to Great Chart and i haven't seen anything about it (probably walking round with my eyes shut). Please can you send me a link and I will send it round my Kent friends? We probably wouldn't enter until a couple of weeks before though....

I hate having to plan in advance.

Whenever I go to a show we wake up in the morning say do you fancy going somewhere. After a quick search to see what's on we get going. :p

My show entries usually get posted with the Closing Date as the postage date lol! I have also been known to drop entries through letter boxes the day of or day after the closing date! I can't actually remember the last thing that I entered well in advance!

So don't panic, most horsey people are either lazy or forgetful and you will probably get a huge influx of entries a week or so before the ride!

I got the details from my local saddlery and am going to enter, but I haven't got organised yet...the ground is having an impact this year, as is the recession - I think a lot of local shows have seen less entries this year, I know we have.
