Do you ever feel as though you need a day off from the horses?

This morning my gorgeous husband has given me a morning off from the horses and it is so lovely... I have had a cup of tea in bed and just chilled out

I adore my horses, and I love every moment of being with them! But sometimes I crave a break like this morning, but then feel horrible for thinking that way. I am up there twice a day every day and make sure Hannah is ridden and exercised as much as possible.

Does anyone else ever feel like this?

God yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes it's great to have a break and then realise that you are around horses because you CHOOSE to!

Sometimes I get so bogged down in the routine of having to be there it's easy to forget it's through choice

I am on the hunt for a job at the moment... I am a trained journalist, but the work up north is not fantastic. I have tried doing some freelance, but the money is just not constant enough unfortunately when we have mortgage payments and bills to pay.

I am looking for something part time at the moment for a constant wage, and then I can keep writing...

Given up having mornings off now as i have a lively jack russel who insit he to be walked as soon it's day light other wise he'll drive me up the wall, horse to tend to and i am all on me lonesome!

I try and give meself time out during the day by getting the dog walked and someone to sort the horse out. My friends often helps out by having the dog over night when i stay with them or they stay with me and they love taking him for walk in the morning while i have the rare lie in! I am lucky i have someone on the yard who will turn the horse out.

I do completely understand and sympathise. Luckily I have an arrangement with another livery, and we do a fair bit to support each other, which means I only have to feed on the way to work in the mornings and she turns out, when I am off or working later I do her mucking out, or she knows she can go away for a weekend and hers will still be done. Having a sharer who steps in from time to time is also nice.
I think if I had to mix stabled horses with full time work and a family and all the domestic chores I would collapse in a heap - either the horses would have to go or I would need a field where they could live out all year round, as it is I spend so long on stable chores each day that I find I can't ride as often as I should.

I feel like that sometimes. Normally i feel guilty if i dont ride one or both of mine every day but the last ten days i havent been able to ride due to me having a bad back!
I have struggled to just get rugs on them and turn them out every day, one of my boys is easy but the other one, only i can do his rugs etc cos he can bite and kick so not really safe for OH to do! He has already been kicked in the knee once and he cant afford to be off work really.
Roll on the spring when i can leave them out 24/7 and have a lie in!

Yeps, frequently and i think its important you get it.

So many people have so much going on in their lives... kids, bofriends, hubbies, house to look after, other pets, job stress etc etc

Its great when you're in your teeens and can balance it with uni, but beyond that?

I love full livery im afraid

nothing would tempt me off it.

p.s. nor should you feel guilty!!!!!

Thanks... I have other things in my life I need to fit in, like cleaning the house, husband, dog to walk and finding a job to work alongside my freelance work

I am actually having a great morning and feel revitalised!

YES!!! Sometime's i would love time off from the horses & i love them very much. But i don't have any help either so i never get a day off even when on death's door. I also run my own business so don't get holidays either...

The only good thing is i can grab the odd days & afternoons for lessons & comps. Suppose you can't have everything

Frequently! From April to November its great because the horses are out 24/7, but I loathe the winter grind of crawling out of bed, mucking out and then having to be back early to get them in. If (when) I ever hang up my boots it will be in the winter!!

I have to say that atm I am fairly lucky, all of mine live out and as I can't get there in the mornings (used to be because I started work too early, now it's because they are too far away), my lovely YO checks on them for me and in icey weather breakes their water and throws them hay. So now I've started the new job, I get to have lie ins. However, hopefully this is all about to change, as I think I have talked my neighbour into lettingmy move my horses there - in which case I will be able to see them twice a day and B will probably start coming in at night soon too. B gets very cross with me if ever I don't get to see them of an evening (there has been the odd time when for whatever reason, my YO has done them for me) and she sulks and doesn't talk to me for a couple of days.....

Yes, it is nice to have a day off occasionally ... from horses, from housework etc etc ... in fact mine was yesterday

though somehow OH and I ended up at the yard in the afternoon and I had fun free schooling Brooklyn. (well running round in the school playing with him

)

It is refreshing and good for you to have a day off now and then

Quite often at the moment! Went up today, mucked out washed grooming kit then couldn't be bothered riding - I need a kick up the bum at the moment, don't know what's wrong with me?

I often feel like that, usually after a hard day at work. Once I get going again im fine. I have the option of going onto full livery but cant bring myself to do it at the moment.
