Do you ever get nervous about riding your own horse?

I don't get nervous about riding my own as I know them pretty well as I have them at home and spend lots of time with them. I feel we trust and understand each other, so no I don't get nervous about riding them. Someone else's horse would be a different matter altogether.

Yeh I do but she is only 3 and has only been backed acouple of months. I hacked her out for the first time yesterday and I must admit I did have a couple of moments when I felt I needed a seatbelt on!!!!

Yep I used to, mainly because I was so intimidated by his size and was not very good at getting on from the ground at that time, so once I was off I couldnt get back on easily!

Also I had a few scary moments with him Including him trotting straight into a fence covered with bushes (so he didnt see the fence) he fell right over it and I went straight over the top and landed in nettles! we were both pretty much unharmed. Took a while to gain confidence my best friend at the time used to take me on short hacks and gradually longer till I built my confidence with him

Yes sometimes I do, but I don't go ride with people who are inconsiderate to their horses or other riders or gallop every time they hit grass regardless or the ground conditions. I'm always careful about where I hack with if I'm with people who can't or wont control their horses.
I do worry about seriously injuring myself (as I need to be able to work) or my horse and I want them to be well behaved.
I'm nervous of loose dogs when riding as I've been attacked whilst out riding Lady. Thats about it really.

Untill Sunny, nothing had ever scared me, but I went through a stage of being terrified of her! It was after a couple of very nasty experiences where she would just sit right down on her hocks and launch herself into space, she would do this constantly and not give up. It was so dangerous and would dread getting on her. I hope that we have got through that stage, but she is still on serious calmers for competitions!

No, never. If I felt that nervous about riding my horse then I wouldn't have that horse. At the end of the day riding is an enjoyable, but expensive, hobby for me. I would not be paying out £200+ per month for something that scared me to death and made me dislike my hobby.

I used to have a pony that went slightly nuts every winter. He used to start acting like a flighty racehorse and I was a bit nervous sometimes as there were some days when he was downright dangerous to ride. I don't know why he used to go like this in cold weather - he was only stabled overnight, wasn't fed loads, just ad-lib hay and the least 'heating' hard feed I could find. Just the way he was. Some of those winter rides were nerve-wracking to say the least. But he was fantastic the other 9 months of the year.
