..... your horses try as hard as they can to make riding/grooming them a virtual impossibility?

This is Islay who came in from the field absolutely dripping in mud on Saturday, i don't think i've ever seen such a happy, mucky little urchin in all my life. I almost threatened her with the Jet wash!!

So are there any other mud wallowing horses/ponies enjoying the thaw and all the mud it brings? Or is it just us with a crazy Highland who enjoys swimmling in the large muddy puddles?!

Oh my god, what a mess! He looks sooooo happy with himself though
wink.gif
Just imagine if he weren't rugged - you'd be brushing for days...

Mine are all very clean still, including my grey as we still have snow! Soon I fear they will all look like your little chap.

Mine looks pretty much like that, though by the time I get there in the evening he's had enough time in the stable (YO brings him in) to dry off so that he's caked in hard, dried mud

I have given up grooming all but where his girth goes (he's rugged so no mud on back) and the bridle line. I will attack him properly at the weekend with curry comb and mane pulling comb as that needs doing too.

His field mate, who is light grey, came in on Sun with even his eyelashes coated in mud

I would have hosed off the lot, inc the bits further up the legs where they wriggle the rug up and grind the mud into their bottoms

My Welshie came in like that one day.... except, minus the rug
crazy.gif
It was plastered straight onto his hair!
He ended up being hosed off and rugged up, rugs changed regularly until he dried

silly pony!

Yep, you've got to love her!!

You could see the old cogs ticking round when we turned her out, she went trotting over to a big water filled hole which one of my others had ably dug out some time ago and got down and started paddling in it. By the time we got chance to try and get her up it was too late, she was absolutely plastered!!! Still, i think she enjoyed it!!

I think, if she could talk she would have said ''So how are you going to get this off me?!'' hehe!! She had her legs hosed off and her rug changed and that was it, felt a bit cruel doing anymore as it was so cold!!
grin.gif

I think i prefered it when it was snowing, at least they were all nice and clean!!
smile.gif

You're so much kinder than me. Not only do I hose him and the rug off but he gets to wear it all night too to dry it out!
smirk.gif
Before anyone reports me to the RSPCA, I wouldn't leave it on him if it was wet inside too.

That's exactly what I would do if mine came in like that!

She looks so happy with herself in that photo.

Mine come in like that on a regular base, and two of them are grey and we have red soil. Don't you love pink ponies!!!

Good effort Islay LOL. One of ours came in like that last winter so we did hose his rug off whilst it was still on him. Simplest way to do it.

Jet wash - now that would have saved a LOT of time

It was wet inside, outside... the poor rugs a bit of a write off!! It's only a couple of months old as well!!

You wonder when they look like that whether they'll ever look like this again....

I just keep looking at their lovely summer photos to give me a bit of hope that the mud will disappear again sometime soon!!

I'm very lucky, mine isn't much of a roller

However... yours looks like she has had A LOT of fun

Bless her

You're very lucky indeed Katy! Out of my 6 only 2 of them don't roll much, Tilly is a bit too precious for her own good and doesn't like mud and Twirl is so busy scoffing, rolling really is a waste of quality eating time!! The others are all olympic gold medallists at rolling in the muddiest places possible!!
grin.gif

I went to get my horse in from the field today and when he saw me coming he rolled in the muddiest part of the field!! think they do it on purpose...to be fair though his rug was not as bad as that!! but would have been straight under the hose if it was!

Holy ge-wok-a-molie!

And I thought my mare was bad, she was positively clean compared to Islay.

Ha ha she knows you like to keep all your horses well groomed, I think thats a challenge and a half
