Do you ever have one of those days....

where you really miss an old horse that you had some time ago?

I loaned an ex-racer when I was 17/18 (would have been 2005) and kept her for 8 months before I had to give her back to the people she came from as she just wasn't settling at the yard! I only managed to ride her a scattering of times because she had a habbit of pulling shoes (coupled with bad feet) and making herself lame (if it wasn't the shoes it was charging round her field).

She was also a bit of a nightmare to ride, although this is something that I know time and patience would have helped!

I've been feeling over the last couple of weeks that I should have moved her to the yard I'm at now, where I know she would have settled more (she would have be turned out with company) and I am desperately missing her!

Don't get me wrong, I love Dreamer to pieces...but I can't do everything I'd like to do with him (SJing for example) and Sunny was younger, fitter and had the potential to go further that I know Dreamer does.

Sorry...bit fo a rant....kind of wish I could get her back, I still have everything for her and I miss her like crazy! Don't have the woman's number anymore though....or for that matter don't know if she's even there now

She was gorgeous (she had a scar right across her star where she had reared in her box as a youngster) and I always say it was where she had her unicorn horn taken off!

I miss her so much!

I can fully understand what you mean, plus I am a sucker for a chestnut TB! I always regret selling my first horse, it was the day before we got married and we needed the money. Loaning just didnt happen in those days (21 years ago). Its one of those things that you always regret. I never sell anything now and they stay with me forever.

Some TBs take a very long time to settle into a new home/owner situation. My old TB was a nightmare too with his shoes. He had no self preservation either.

Why not go and visit or try to trace the owner ... it would put your mind at rest to know how the mare is doing.

Yes, most definately.

I had a horse called Freddy - only for 8 months. He was an ex chaser, given to me to look after when his owner got a new job in London.

He was a very special horse, and I really wish we'd had more time together. His owner and I made the decision to put him down because of his increasing debilitation.

I realised afterwards the reason she didn't settle was because she was alone in her field (and although had companions next to her) she wanted to be in with them! She didn't get on with mares either but the yard I am at now would have been perfect because she would have had LOADS of boys to run round and flirt with.

I don't have my own car and the place that she came from is about an hours drive away from where I am. My Dad wasn't overly keen on her and I doubt he'd take me to see her (he was quite pleased when I got rid of her)....and I would have NO idea how to go about trying to trace the owner anyway!!

yep, apart from my old boy Blue who had to be shot, i had a loan pony called Zircon who was anglo arab. I only had him over the summer as his owners renaged on the agreement - that pony taught me so much during that summer. he was 17 when I had him and I wish he could have grown old with me.....
