...get really embarassed by people at the stables? when people who are average (and i mean that in the nicest sense, i consider myself average) riders start spouting out loads of stuff that they have read in magazines and stuff like they are experts?

wink.gif
i don't mean in a bitchy way but just in a completely deluded about their own ability kind of way and you can tell the people they are talking to are laughing at them secretly?!

I have been known to.... at one point there was one woman I had group lessons with who I had the missfortune of knowing in another capacity and she used to wind me up something chronic.... till I found out all the grooms at the yard hated her! lmao used to love listening to them go on about her!

Have you never been proud of something you have learned and wanted to tell other people? It is silly but I'm sure we are all guilty of telling someone something that you learned from a book etc. If they are willing to learn then surely they are better than someone who doesn't bother to try and improve at all?

Let them have their moment and if you want, you laugh secretly too

In a way, but often the people spouting all the stuff are completly oblivious to the fact they're being laughed at so i don't feel so bad for them

oh i don't really feel bad for them- i just cringe inwardly at how much of a pratt they sound
blush.gif
i feel embarrassed to be associated with them sometimes which is a horrible thing to say

I would rather be associated with someone like that than someone who abuses their horse or similar...there are far worse things to do
smile.gif

No one does it out yard, we like to keep it real and just take the mick out of ourselves and each other and all the nags in front of each other, keeps us sane actually! I can't be bothered quoting all that technical jargon, just for the sake of sound good, don't see the point besides I'd only get all wrong even if tried and rehearsed it lol

oh no i'm not having a go at people who read stuff and then pass it on openly admitting its something they've read- i think that is great...its more when they say something like "oh my god don't you just hate it when people let their horses walk not into a contact when hacking" and you look over and their horse is slopping about with its head on upside down and not into a contact at all.....
grin.gif
(this happened to me recently!!)

i totally agree...its more of a character flaw of mine i think! i only really say things/ give advice if i'm directly asked and even then i'm very non committal so i cringe sometimes at what people are suggesting!!
smile.gif

aaah ok, well in that case I am completely with you! Luckily none of us do that (though we all like to show off our newly read knowledge when it comes in handy)

I've have said things that I've learnt from a book or magazine but don't say it unless I understand fully what it means, otherwise you just end up looking a little silly.

yeah thats more what i mean- when people read one book on ex racehorses for example and then stand and tell you what you should be doing with the horse you've owned and competed successfully for years when they really have no clue....its that that winds me up!!
mad.gif

Thats the weird thing with me, (maybe its just because i think though) but I can't learn from books, yes I remember if studying for a horse exam but once I've learnt it for that reason, then it all goes out of the window (well brain) and although I have learnt about the subject, quoting the terminology I wouldnt be able to becaus its not how I talk everday day, but I would be able to regonise it, if you see what I mean, the only way learn things well and soak in like a sponge is through doing it on a regular basis.
smile.gif

I was like that when I was little!
grin.gif
I was really precocious and I read a LOT, then I'd spout off what I'd read as if I knew everything.
tongue.gif
Worst thing is, half the time I couldn't even pronounce the words because I'd never heard them out loud - I used to say "jelding" for gelding! Luckily I have parents who are not above taking the p1ss out of a seven year old, so I soon realised how silly it made me look!
I still love to pass on interesting stuff I've read, but now I make sure to let people know that it's just something I found in a magazine and it might not be right!

My pet hate is when you ask someone a question and they answer it as though they're totally certain of the answer, even sometimes making out that you're an idiot for not knowing, and then later you find out that they were completely wrong and just talking bull because they didn't want to admit to not knowing. Tch!

my OH is the worst for this
smile.gif
he was going on to one of his friends about one of our horses being "super scopey" when asked if he knew what this meant he said no but "it sounded good" !!! luckly friend was less knowledgeable than him!!!!

ha ha nothing major helen...just something thats been building for a while...
grin.gif

TBF its not normally directed at me have just noticed it and just want to say "please stop talking...you look like a pratt" but daren't because person is actually lovely and would die if they knew this is what people thought

i think they are genuinely trying to be helpful....

I knew a couple like this at my old yard. Best quote ever (said proudly whilst out hacking)

"Well this is the only way I can get him on the bridle".

Horse in question was an extremely heavyweight cob-type who was somewhat overweight and had never been known to come off the forehand in his life.

Method to "get him on the bridle" was to fit a hanging cheek snaffle upside down (reins attached to the loops for the cheekpiece).

Needless to say, I have seen giraffes working in a better outline than this horse LOL
laugh.gif

There is a lady at my yard who has just got her first horse, she rants on and on to me and or interrupts my conversations with other people, telling me stupid things etc, so far I haven't replied to any of her waffle but one day I will turn around and say to her, yes, thank you for your advice but I have owned horses for the past 40 years! :-)

I don't know about laughing secretly, more like grinding their teeth and biting their tongues.
grin.gif

Well I hope that they don't find their way onto HHO because if they read this post they aren't going to be very pleased with you are they

ha ha...they will be too oblivious to realise its them hopefully!
