Let me explain, this morning while driving I met two extreme 'tractors of terror' (borrowed saying from hovis - I hope he doesn't mind :-)) one was a tractor pulling the biggest trailer and one was some kind of crop sprayer. All I could was thank god I didn't meet that whilst being on board!!!

lol - I have met one of those before - I was trying to get my previous horse to hack out on his own - well I saw the crop sprayer tractor in the field and thought no worries I will be able to get off road by then and then all of a sudden a HUGE hare came running out and horse nearly fell over - by the time we had retreated and tried again several times the big crop sprayer with a huge arm thingy came round the corner. Horse was terrified and so we made a hasty retreat back up the road.

On another occassion I was out hacking with OH who is a very novice rider and we were skirting around a field that we thought we were allowed on - farmer later explained not that field but it was ok - anyway I saw this piece of machinery and said to OH 'oh look someone has stolen a lawnmower / blower and hidden it in the field' he very calmly said shall we trot on? Once on other side of the field he explained it was a bird scarer - thank god it didnt go off right next to us!

Yes, usually when wagons are exceeding the 20mph zone on a bend on the wrong side of the road.

Or those drivers in the monster tractors that don't bother slowing down.

Oh the joys of hacking. :D

Oh yes, I think this all the time. I walk around the City of London and think "She wouldn't like that hoarding, or those roadworks. I'll never get her past all that scaffolding." But of course I wouldn't even contemplate boxing her up to the City for a hack around the streets!

But she's alright with tractors of terror, but put some wood in your car and have it hanging out of the sunroof and that is an entirely different matter.

Yes although we nearly did. Bear in mind we are on the downs and on a B road, coming back to the yard, heard a funny sound, only to see an artic lorry trying to go down a really REALLY narrow road with cars trying to stop it. My friend quietly said lets just turn round and go back into the woods because when that starts reversing, we are going to be in a lot of trouble!

I've been out hacking with tractor other side of hedge coming towards still chipping away at the bushes, bits flying everywhere!! Arghh!!
Everytime I see them I think that god I'm not on my horse, although ted prob wouldn't bat an eye lid

oh hacking on the ranges is always fun, I had a horse near pirbright ranges a good few years ago now, we met tanks, army men hiding in the bushes in camoflague who pop up to say hello and scare the life out of you and horse! Then the biggest was cantering up one of the hills to be met face to face with the pilot of a rather large chinook (sp?) helicopter!! Thankfully ex racer stood there and took it all in his stride, dont know who was more supprised the pilot or me!

i hack my wifes exceedingly spooky (when she feels like it) mare, she's ok round home but occasionally I will hack either after or before her lessons away from home. last summer on such an occasion we were about 1 mile from our start point about to turn round when round the corner came a 4wd with flashing light, the driver inform me there were 2 combine harvesters following him, great I thought, (not) they filled the whole road. i managed to find a suitable field entrance and prayed, as you can tell from the post we did survive, although jogging/ cantering home was slightly off putting.
