I do, in a way... with Blue's previous owner, in a weird way, because she was a traveller lady who we bought him off at market.

Sometimes wonder what she'd say if i showed her photos of him now

But then think its probably not a good idea to go there and show her - she might want him back to sell on again!

I use too...until I lost my phone with her number in it. I've tried all sorts to try and get contact with her as there is losts I want to tell her...short of posting her name on here I've drawn a blank.

She loved having updates and getting photos. Previous horses owners didn't seem that fussed to be honest.

From a seller's point of view - I would love to know how my old horses were getting on. I have sold 2 horses in the past, the new owners stayed in touch for about 4 months, then heard nothing. Would love to know how they were getting on - but suppose no news is good news. It was a long time ago now, but would like to know if the first horse I sold is even still around!

I wish i was still in contact with the people who have my other horse tho. in fact i am trying to find them well by way of the dealer that yesterday i found out she went to...I think for me i would love to know that one i have had has gone to a good home and having a happy life altho if they werent i would probably not be to happy and spend a small fortune trying to get them back!!

I wish i could find out my horse's breeding. We bought him and at the time were not fussed about paperwork (dunno why we were just naive and breeding didn't matter to us) but the seller had the papers. I would love to find out my horse's background. It was 13 years ago now. Hmm, actually shoudl probably post a "does anyone know?" post on here as the lady we bought him from was a dealer i think (or did dealinmg on the side at the livery yard she had) so maybe easuier to find her. Can't remember her full name though - think my mum does. All I remember is she was called Dawn at was at some stables Hull way. A yard based right next door to a haulage company (well I knew then my horse had no prob with lorries!!).

Right you have prompted me to find out more now!

Also would be interested to know what happened to my sister's horse we sold years ago...!

I love to know how horses I have sold are getting on. I am always terrified to call their owners though, as I get so worried if something has happened, eg, horse has bucked or something - I feel really guilty, even though horses are horses, and accidents happen. The lady who has bought my pony is brilliant though, she keeps phoning with regular updates on how everything is going, and has invited me to go and visit her whenever I want. The people who I sold my OH's Suffolk Punch x to have asked if I want to hunt her again this year (old farmer now owns her, he just enjoys hacking out on his farm, and plans to breed her next year to a Suffolk stallion).

I wish I could find Ben's old owner, and let her know how he is. She disappeared off the face of the planet after we bought him (we had loaned him for a year before we bought him) I think she felt guilty about lying to us etc.

I have kept in touch with my horses old owner. Just the odd text after a comp to tell her how we got on. Its nice when you are slightly worried about something that you think the horse has not come across before, so you ask and they re-assure you.

I stay in touch with old owners provided they have e-mail as it is a lot easier. I e-mail Cakey's old owner once a year and have done for the past 7 years, I still see and have lessons from Rusky's old owner and I just e-mailed Freddy's owner yesterday with his progress. I like to get in touch when I have something nice to report though!

Absolutely no way! The woman I bough J off was a total bitch, she lied and was extremely nasty when problems arose.

The only thing I'd like to do to her is set her on fire

If I ever sold him though, I would like to know how he is getting on etc, although I guess sometimes (depending on the circumstances of sale) it may be heartbreaking to find out sometimes.

I am still in contact with George's old owner, she sees us every 2 weeks as she is my instructor! I'd never met her before I bought George, but I realised she taught and really liked her so asked her if she would teach us!

I had my horse on loan first and then bought him, now keep her updated with what we are up to and plans etc.

Its nice to ask questions about him too!

I found out recently that as a youngster she spent more time on the floor having been bucked off than she did riding him! !

-ohh was just been thinking about this would to have loved to have been contacted by new owners but due to details and moving i dont' think it would have been easy to.

I sold a horse 7 years ago and new owner hadn't given complete details so been unable to get in contact - but recently was able to get the correct address and number for whom i sold her to .

I'm in a dilema of head over heart on this one, I'd LOVE to know how the mare is doing and what they've done whilst they own her - but also expect to hear that she was sold on again and that would just be back to the begining .

Also trying to work out the best way to contact. Don't know if dropping phoning them would be best? At least i would get an answer one way or another or to send a nice letter but then i don't want the disappointment of not hearing back.

sorry to hijack the post!
But if Old owner was to contact you about a horse you had bought would you prefer to speak with them or are you more likely to respond to a letter ? or prefer a letter method?

I am still in contact with Taras old owner- she was devastated to see her go (well, she didn't see her go- she started crying and had to go in the house while we loaded her up and left!), so we post regular updates with pictures etc. I love hearing about my old ponies- I see Harrys owners quite alot at local shows, and get the occasional update from Eddie

I stay in touch with his last owner via the farrier who put me in touch with her. Via pony's passport, freezemark and a bit of delving (and hours on the phone) I've managed to track his breeder down (he's currently unpapered).

It's amazing what you can do via the internet and a few phonecalls.

I'd love to let them know how fab Hen is getting on, we we're in touch for a while, but lost touch when he moved house. The last time he saw Hen he went to speak to the wrong coloured horse as Hen had changed so much!

I would love to find his breeders, and past owners. Although I did bump into a women at a show once who was convinced Hen was her old horse Jake, he had identical scars and everything! She had bought him as a 2 year old from Gypsies.
I really would love to see piuctures of him as a foal, and see his sire and dam.

I don't know how I forgot this as it is my nicest 'get in touch with old owner's story. I bought Harry through Andy Austin who was selling him on behalf of his owners so I never met the owners. I was told at the time that the horse had been bred by Tim Stockdale, who had sold it to these two sisters. I wrote to the owners about a year in, never heard back so dropped it. Ten years later Harry was put to sleep so I thought it would be nice to write to the breeder to let him know the horse had had a good life. I got a LONG letter back from Tim's wife with all the details! They had not bred him, but had bought him, backed and started him when he was very young, she remembered him very fondly and was very happy to hear he had had a happy life. How nice of her!

I lost contact with Ed owners as they moved away aswell as all my other previous ponies.
I have kept in contact with Stylo's, they have a link to my photobucket account so I always try to keep that up to date as much as possible so they can see him for themselves then they get an email every so often.

My first pony was only out on loan to me as his owner died whilst he was out on loan so they loaned him out to me, sadly not a word from them for 6 years they finally returned our calls when they wanted him back, turned up a few weeks later and took him and I haven't heard anything from them since (6 years ago) and to this day I am still gutted that they never contacted me despite me asking them to and gave them all my contact details

I've been in touch with Carma's old owners for 19 years and we will stay in touch even when she has gone. I'm also in touch with Flin's old owner but only had him for 4 months. I hope that we are in touch for just as long!

J's ex owner took advantage of me. SHe would turn up unannounced and sit her young daughter on his back in the field without hat or headcollar or my consent/knowledge.

She phoned up very aggressively once because I had moved yards without telling her!

She constantly stalked me for a year, until she got the message.

The thing is, I would have been happy to have stayed in touch occasionally, but she over stepped the line and my patience wore out.
