Do you ever wonder if your horse is too good for you?

I've never felt like that with Axey, he is exactly how I want him to be, and he goes better for me than anyone else that's ridden him, he's such a difficult horse to ride no-one else knows him like I do.
When I had lessons with Marcus Bauer I would have loved to have seen him ride Axey but he never did.
The only other people to ride him are judges in showing classes and Halfpass!

However when it comes to jumping I would love someone else to jump him for me, I start bottling it when the jumps go over 1.10m and Axey could jump much higher, I would also never take him XC but if someone else did I'm sure he would be fab.
But then I might lose my dressage horse to an eventer lol!!

I just want to say how nice it is that people think their horses are too good for them it shows how much they are appreciated. I always thought my SJ was too good for me and always wanted my instructors (2 of them) to ride him but they always said he was too small 15.2. I went for a weeks training with one and finally got him on and it was like petrol on a BBQ!!! As kerilli said not all horses can cope with the high pressure environment. Forget about how far they "could" go and think about if they are happy with you.

yes i do hehe!
I know we have a buy and sell business but i always buy a younsgter and say right, il do more than a year of competing on this one this year and have a break i think, but they always end up becoming really nice horses with massive of potential so i always have to sell because money is more important than my pleasure, even tho i get even more pleasure producing them all! It really makes me proud!
Iv got 1 younsgter that is learning and coming on really well and i have had a really good offer already so shes going to a lovly home! And i bought a 3 yo last year to bring on and keep for a bit of fun but hes too good to keep aswell so im selling him and getting good money! lol, i dont think i ever will settle haha! iv caught the producing bug if you like hehe

And there is the other side

The horse I currently ride and compete was offered to me as something to just hack out when i lost my lad. Owner just saw him as a happy kick along hack.
3 months down the line he is now out competing BSJA, has proved useful over XC fences and will do a reasonable dressage test.
I have been teaching the owner at the same time as bringing him on and she has now started hunting him and confidently jumping anything they meet. This is something she never thought possible but watching him XC with me has given her the confidence to get out there and have a go. She has also discovered how much fun it is watching her horse compete at a level she never thought he could do.
Plan is for her to compete him a few levels down from where I'm playing with him.
Our arrangement has completely changed her veiw of what he is capable of and opened up a whole new world for them both that she never even considered but now thoroughly enjoys.
So sometimes a horse is a lot more capable than the owner thinks and theuy may both be missing out on a lot of fun.

I'm sure he would progress even faster with a pro but then a pro would be charging for their services and perhaps wouldn't have bothered to really explore the horses potential. I know when i first rode him I felt he would be a great horse for a riding school for novices. He really was that ploddy.

If I'd had anything else to play with I would certainly have passed on him and missed a great opportunity and horse.
