I want to do a mini one day event on Mystic and even though mum and my instructor says we are capible (sp) and its a good idea to do it i keep thinking others might think we are aiming too high.:o
Iv had mystic for a year went to around 5/6 local shows last year (first shows i have been to) jumped up to 2'9, have done 1 walk & trot dressage test and went over some xc jumps when i was at a show as the course was open.
The mini one day event is 2ft xc, 2ft show jumping and dressage test doesn't look too bad.
Don't know whether to enter or not
Do you ever worry about what other think or not?

Not really no.

If you feel ready and your pony is fit enough then go for it 100%.
The courses are lower than you know you can manage which is perfect for your first go.
It will go so quickly so just prepare as much as you can and enjoy it - best of luck and make sure someone is there to take pics for you if no course photographer there so you have a nice momento :)

Once you get the first one under your belt, they'll be no stoping you!

I am the queen of coming last.....and loving it! :D We did a ODE last year and had never done a dressage test or jumped a round of show jumps. We got eliminated in the dressage when Zoom jumped out of the boards in a rage :D I had the best day ever!!!!!!!! We were still allowed to go SJ and XC.

Just last weekend we got eliminated in our first 2'9 HT and I was still over the moon with her since she just refused at one jump and I eventually got her over it and jumped round the rest clear.

Go, have lots of fun, take piccies and then come on here and tell us all about it!

I used to worry, especially when I started showing, jumping 2 ft or so as a grown adult in classes full of kids :S

Then I snapped out of it!!!

Do what your comfortable with, and besides the kids dont mind me competing against them, they always beat me anyway :)

people that judge you when they dont know you are really really not worth your time, Ive learnt this the hard way

Good luck at the ODE, Sounds like good fun - I want to come!! lol

The only question you should be asking yourself is

are we ready to do it?,

and not if other people think you are or not.

If you have jumped 2'9 before with ease and your horse is currently fit enough to do a mini ODE (with 2ft jumps) and the class/event is suited to your capabilities, then I can't for the life of me think why not, or why anyone else would question it.

Go enjoy yourselves and have a go, you won't know unless your give it a try, even if it doesn't go too well, it's all great experiance.

I don't care what people think about me but i'm always scared i may let my ponies down.
I went to a clear round jumping show at a local stabels once. I hacked there and saw someone i knew on the way so stopped and had a chat. By the time i got there the jumps where already up at 2ft6 which is much bigger than i normaly jump. :o I thought i would give it a go as i had ridden all the way over. I froze as i approached the jumps and forgot what my legs where for. Lucy looks after me to well and if she had jumped i would have prob fallen off so she did the nicest refusels you have ever seen. I turned her round rode propaly into the fence and she jumped it. This was repeated at every jump. I left the arena and gave her a big pat. As i walked out the arena a young girl said to me "I wouldn't pat it! It didn't get a clear round"
I looked at her and said "if you knew anything you would have seen that was all my fault and i was lucky she jumped anything for me"
I was upset Lucy seemed to be blamed for my mistake. But i know she is an amazing pony and thats all that matters.
So in answer to your question I do worry about what other people think but about my ponies not me.
I think you should go if you want to. Sod what other people think as long as you have fun who cares. Most of them you will prob never see again anyway. :D :D :D

Dont worry in the slightest. People should mind their own business - as long as you're not blatantly pothunting (which you very clearly are not!) then there is no problem. What I object to is the people who turn up and jump (and win) at 2ft, then also enter the 2ft3, 2ft6, 2ft9 etc. What you're doing is completely different - you need to build your own confidence and that of your horse, and a mini ODE is the best possible start! :)

For what it's worth, I'm in a similar position. Ellie and I used to compete successfully at 3'9/4ft in the show jumping ring, yet now I am so nervous that 2ft3/2ft6 is the biggest I will jump. Nobody cares; it is obvious I'm not competing beneath my capability as I am nowhere near the ride I once was, and I think that is what matters at the end of the day.

Can I just ask, where is the ODE? I'm desperately searching for as many things to get to as I can now- I've got the bug again! :D:D:D:D:D

I think i just worry because they compete more and higher than i do, maybe also its a confidence thing aswell as iv never been to a one day event. I really want to do it though so think i will enter, just need to sort out transport now, its not til July though :o

I constantly worry what other will think! And I can't tell you the number of times I've walked away from challenges due to this, only to think later how much I regretted it.

GO AND DO IT!

You sound perfectly capable and I'm sure you'll feel wonderful afterwards, and it will all build your confidence for the next time.

It doesn't matter if it all goes pear shaped either, as long as you come home with one good point, eg I did the trip on my own, I stayed calmer than I thought I would, my boy was so well behaved i was really proud of him. Small steps - they all count.

Good luck with it. x

other people at shows rarely care as long as there are no welfare issues. most people go for their own enjoyment or training of their horse/rider and couldn't care less if you come first of last. so if you are happy to do it and horse fit enough then go for it and enjoy. good luck!

enter it. i would.
who cares what others think? i normally compete against my own standards- if i came last in a comp but was on a young horse i was expecting to fall off but didnt, id be happy!
there are lots of people with all shapes and sizes of horses doing 'unexpectedly well' out competing!
