Now I hate to admit this, but I read about rhythm beads some time ago, and how they can help a horse to stay in rhythm, but not wanting to embarrass my horses I went to a craft shop, bought a few of those brass jangly things (you sometimes see them round the necks of teddy bears), and tied them to my lungeing roller.

And they do work - especially with young horses - and have a very relaxing effect on sharper and more lively horses. I thought it was worth 60p for the experiment, and I have never taken them off. But I wouldn't put a necklace on my horses!

I can see the point in helping rider and/or horse to notice and go with a rhythm, I just can't like the idea of a necklace on a horse!!

Has intrigued me though, and I might end up buying F some bells to play around with - maybe add them to his high vis neck band thingy or something. He's far too much of a man to be seen wearing a poofy necklace though!

I know a mare whose owners bought her a necklace. It didn't work on her, she stayed a nasty, bolshy, bargy cow... (they mustn't have got the colours right). Personally I think a bit of establishing the ground rules and cutting out the hard feed might have worked better...

God, what next!! Suppose they have their uses though

yes. they do. when you have beaten your horse with the carrot stick and it's still not complying by standing on a barrel, you can strangle it with it's necklace instead!!!

It does make me wonder... WHY? i mean, it's very nice and everything, but surely it would just bump up and down and frighten the horse?! Am i missing something?

Ah-HA!! You can stop pretending you don't really REALLY want one now
