As the title says really?

DO you feed Horses/broodmares that are out all year round? if so what do you feed?

Do you feed only though certain times of the year or just hay?

My horses are in at night in thewinter but live out 24/7 in the summer, unless ofcourse we get some badweather (like we often do) then they coe in during the summer to.

They always get fed twice aday, even when i reduce it in the summer.
They then get all the vitamins and other things they need and any supliments i might add.

It also means they get a reward after riding and at the other end of the day when i just check on them all i have to do is call them and they come to me, they now i have something yummy for them!

Mine is stabled on 2 feeds a day in the winter, and is out 24 hours in the summer. I generally don't feed him while he's out 24/7, but I start taking an evening feed out every day from about September onwards, and he usually gets a little feed if he's been ridden.

Our little ponies are out most of year. Get hay and feed PM from Sept - April onwards and AM too if frosty / snowy. Don't feed rest of year as have opposite problem!

Ours are out 24/7 apart from in really bad weather. The two good doers are currently getting five sections of hay between them twice a day, and one meal a day. The fat cob in light work (well more intermittent than light...) gets a scoop of Dengie Good Doer chaff, and Equivite. My mare who has a big belly but is lacking topline and real condition is on half a scoop of Alfa-A Lite, 500g TopSpec Lite, and her supplements (glug of apple cider vinegar, MSM, salt when worked, and currently gets Pink Powder as she's a bit loose at the mo

)
When they are on their summer grazing it will be the same except minus the hay

they all need a feed of sorts that includes the vitamins and minerals that may be lacking in grass and hay. old horses, youngstock and breeding stock are especially vulnerable to deficiencies and may need higher protein than other types. Good doers in light work may need little apart from a mineral/vit lick. Feed according to type, age and workload.

i feed everything 2 x daily, always. if they're out 24/7 they get feed balancer, a bit of alfa, readigrass or hi-fi (depending on condition) to keep them busy while the others eat theirs, sugar beet in winter, and a few carrots. i do this with youngsters onwards. fatties just get hi-fi and balancer.
i think it teaches them early on that people = good stuff with no ties, so they become easy to catch. my lot always come charging to me whatever time i go to the field, night or day.

Depends on the horse, but in general I would give as little hard feed as possible.

I have 2 horses out at the moment, 1 not in work and one light hacking.

They have had additional haylage throughout the winter and 1 feed of pony nuts and SB a day.

Next week they move onto summer grazing and all haylage/hard feed will be cut out, bar a handful of happy hoof post exercise for one of them!

Both at TBx and both are good doers.

My pony gets a handful of Alfa A Oil + Lo Cal Balancer + suppliments twice a day. Will cut out the Alfa A Oil once I've finished the bag. Might cut it down to one feed a day if he can manage all his suppliments in one feed. The mini Shetlands get carrots/swede to keep them quiet.

They get hay in the winter as grazing not great - they are still getting a v small amount atm until the grass comes through properly - nearly there.

Vet is coming to see pony on Friday so will see what he says about condition - guessing he would like to see less on pony

Yes.

Everything lives out. For 6 months of the year I have no grass to speak of, it's either under snow or dry and brown. So I feed hay ad lib, and also alfa cubes, oats and BOSS. The Broodmares get the appropriate bits and pieces as required.

My mares are just broodies, obviously the youngsters aren't working, and the ridden horses are just hacks but they all get fed through the winter for warmth. When the grass comes in I cut feed right down or out, depending on individuals.

yes - i have 2 out 24/7. the 23yr old just gets half rations of topspec, handful of good doer and some very watery alfalfa pellets once a day. the youngster gets 2 feeds a day totalling around 6kg of TopSpec full rations, Outshine, TopSpec CoolCondition cubes, TopSpec Super conditioning flakes and Saracen ReLeve plus alfa-oil and readigrass to nibble on when he's tied up on the yard.

All mine are out 24/7 all winter foals and mares, left the foals on the mares this winter so the mares were on 2 feeds a day, Allen and Page conditioning mix, Graze on dried grass, alfa A and Baileys stud balancer and sugar beet.

The maiden in foal was on the local cheap mix plus above with the two foals. I weaned one at 11 months old and she is now on above plus weaning mix.

They have had haylage all winter in the evening and hay in the morning, I found the haylage was very rich and gave some of them the runs, but mixng the two worked perfectly and the look really well. One of the mares is pure TB.

All were rugged. That works for me!

In the summer the grass was really good so they didn't get much else apart from a mineral lick. In the autumn I strip grazed them on the rested field which gave them grass until the end of November when I started feeding forage, though they got one feed a day including stud balancer from October when the grass declined a bit.

All three out 24/7 all year; All fed couple of handfuls of Fibergy, black sunflower seeds, and speedi_beet. x 2.
No hay

lots of grazing; In summer they get the same feed but are on restricted grazing.

Mine are out 24/7, all year round. My retired PBA, a very good doer, gets Lo-Cal and a handful of chaff; the younger one who is now back in full work gets chaff and endurance mix, plus supplements. They both get beet. At the moment they're fed twice a day but once the grass comes through properly that will go down to once a day.

They get hay in the winter if the grass is snow-covered or frosted.

My mare's been out 24/7 for the last two years. I fed chaff with a foot supplement in the summer, only a token feed so i can keep up with the supplement.
In winter she gets chaff, balancer and a small amount of oats/barley. Probably not what everyone else would feed but she looks good on it and is bright eyed and happy so that suits me

She's well rugged and hayed up each day too.

My mare generally lives out 24/7 and as she has got older requires more so she gets hay, or feed anytime of year if i think she needs it, she gets hard feed all year round for supplements mainly, less in summer.

However when she was younger she was not fed anything apart from grass is summer , and when she was used as a brood mare she did get some stud mix in about the last half of pregnancy and a short while after birth

Depends on the type of horse i suppose, we have had mostly cobs and cob types so they tend not to need much

Previous ponies I've had (all native types) that lived out 24/7 have had ad-lib hay in winter and Alpha-A, Speedibeet, pasture mix, plus oats if needed and carrotts. In the summer they got Hi-Fi and carrotts. They were out on poor grazing, unclipped and without rugs and in relatively doing long hacks several times a week.
