Hi everyone,

So I started looking for a new horse last April and saw dozens. I was looking for an allrounder, been there done that sort, that I could just get on a go with. Whilst I was looking a tried a horse which was the complete opposite than what I wanted, but I fell in love. He was bigger, younger and less experienced than what I wanted, but had potential. I tried him twice and was about to go back for the third time and hopefully put a deposit on him, when he got sold the day before :( I was gutted. Since then I have bought a new horse who is great and I wouldn't get rid of him for the world, but, the first horse I was going to buy has just come back up for sale due to lack of time. My heart is telling YES YES YES!! but then in my head i'm thinking do I really want the commitment of another??

Financially I could quite easliy afford both and I do have the time aswell, but I'm not sure what to do.

So really I want to know wether you would go with your head or your heart in my situation?

Thanks for reading :)

Buy it! You've said you've got the time and money - what have you got to loose? :)
I've got two. Means they are company for each other, I can keep myself to myself and just do my two on livery without worrying one will be left out on its own for example etc, etc. Works perfectly!
Good luck!

If you've really sat down & considered the full implications of another horse in its entirety, then yes go for it. I've always 'known' exactly when to buy & so far i've been right.

Now, I was very tempted to say - follow your heart - I do! I always ignore my head and just deal with the consequences. I just see it is, I work hard, life's short, have what I want.

BUT thinking about it I don't think this is actually what I do infact do! I thinkI listen to neither my head or my heart and I go with my gut. Feels like my gut might be a little tinged with my heart but it idn't quite clear.

I definitely go with my gut. I have just gone with my gut and decided not to get a second. I am making the right decision, doesn't mean I'm not sad about it. I can afford it and could possibly afford the time but I hope to have a family soon and I think that the pressure of two would then be too much as I would have to go back to work full time.

I think your gut tells you - YES in this instance (and I think you know it).

xx

I'd say go with your heart.

Your head has already said that you could afford it both in terms of time and money, and now your heart is saying go for it.

I bought my third on a heart feeling, and he is turning into a little gem and I'm SO glad I did it :)

Goodluck whatever you choose. x

Heart - the rest will fall into place.

I once went looking for a sensible middle aged gelding and ended up with a 2yr old mare with a personality disorder!! Wouldn't have her any other way now and thats many years on.

Do what feels right but thing hard about how it will effect you, what you want to do and the others around you :-)

Financially and time wise you can do it, so what's not to go for?!

I chose my horse as a heart one. I had the head one (her sister) who was exactly what I'd wanted and ended up going home with her younger sister. I couldn't have chosen better. She is my dream horse and the bond is amazing... your heart is saying yes for a reason :)

Hmmm... They haven't had this horse long really and now a lack of time forces sale...

Could be genuine. Although it rings alarm bells in my cynical head :).

Worth a look though!

To me it sounds all too typical. Someone takes on a pretty youngster, then realises after a winter that they actually take up time...!

lol thats what my cynical head said too , then my heart butted in and said , yeah but if you liked it the first time round and as long as it's not been totally ruined since, then go for it!!!!:D:D

Do it!! If ur still thinking bout this horse now that if that was me i'd know it was the right thing to do!

I was looking for exactly the same as you, allrounder but also something to give me confidence around 10years old.

Really struggled to find anything that fitted this critea and spent 5months looking... then i went to try a 7year old sports horse who was perfect hack but green in th school. I fell in love with him and brought him.

COnfidence is going from strength to strength. I'm 100times better on the ground and today i went out for a hack on my own... something i couldnt of done 8months ago! I am getting some help with schooling though which i expected.

Do it

I would go with my heart but would ask the owners to give their vet permission to release the horse's records to me. But that is because despite my heart I am quite cynical so would want to know if any medical or behavioural issues had caused them to need a vet. Not fool proof I know, but would make me feel better about.the quick sale
