Probably a silly post but I found myself getting annoyed on saturday when I heard the 46th person talking about my dog right in front of me telling everyone with them with autority that she was a husky, that she would be far nicer if she had blue eyes, that she must be vicious as she had a muzzle on (erm no it was a halti)

I felt like shouting if your going to make comments loud enough for me to hear why dont you actually strike up a conversation with me, you might learn something

Still on a lighter note my girl was beautifully behaved all day and completely ignored two loony jack russels that tried to start an argument with her and loved all the fuss and attention she got from people

Yep it drives me mad

When I first had greyhounds I used to always muzzle them when I went out, so of course they HAD to be vicious and nasty... and of course then you would get the numpties who would say 'oh arent they thin'... and when my old boy started to get a bit infirm in his back end he would shake, so some tw*t would always say 'oh he is shaking, he must be cold'

Rant away considering my first post was a big rant lol lol

I can`t believe how many people in this country still think haltis are muzzles, the only reason she had it on was so I could have that little big extra control if need be

Yep I cant believe it either

We tried a Halti on our lurcher who wanted to pull like a train, but he hated it so we were VERY BAD OWNERS and went back to his choke chain
tongue.gif
Never actually had to use it, the rattle was always enough for him

I get asked if B is part wolf or husky all the time, er, no, he is sable.
Oh yes, and then there are the people who feel they are qualified to comment on his back and legs, even when we have just JOGGED past them for the umpteenth time, and who like to confuse Hip Dysplasia with CDRM.
Oh and shortcoated GSDs are Alsatians and longcoated ones are German Shepherds.

The 'vicious' comments just pass me by now, people used to shout at me in the street when I was a youngter about how my dogs were dangerous and should be shot. Yes, look at her being walked by a 12 year old girl, what a killer.

It can work the other way. A man at the airshow on Saturday had a gorgeous big long-coat GSD, very dark black and tan with a beautiful dark mask, but definitely a GSD.
He told me it was a Belgian Shepherd. I said 'Er, it isn't, but he is lovely' and ran away.
And the amount of nervous, shaky dogs I saw after the Hawk and Eurofighter passed overhead - WHY would you take a nervous dog to a bloody air show?!

Also, what is it about JRTs? Don't get me wrong, I have known some fab ones, but they would start a row in a graveyard!!!!

When we took Barney out in his Halti once, some silly old bat said, in an approving tone of voice, 'nice to see them all muzzled up!' Mum was actually quite upset. He was a labrador FFS, you were only in danger if you happened to look and smell exactly like a piece of cheese or horsepoo (maybe that is why she was concerned....)

Henry doesn't get comments like that, I think I must look like one scary assed beeyatch and people daren't (yeah right)

The best one was when waiting to cross at the point just after the leaf pit to over hear a guy behind us tell his partner that she was a wolf and that they had curly tails so they couldnt poo on them, I was about to say something when my friend who was with us politely turned round and informed him that she was actually an alaskan malamute and that if she really wanted to she could probably more than likely get poo on her tail, I really struggled not to have a laughing fit at that one

One of the reasons I am thankful I rarely have to use the gencon (like a halti) on Evie is because of the muppets who thought she was wearing a muzzle. GSDs do seem to attract loads of "knowledgeable" comments as CC says, so can sympathise Cyrus.
We used to have an evil JR who hated children, if you walked her with the Shepherds people would drag their kids away from the Sheps and encourage them to pat the JRT - WRONG

MM we rarely have to use it too in fact when out and about at home and at rallies shes only ever on her collar, I put it on her at Burghley as there was going to be so many people about in close proximity and thought it would give me that extra control, but once again she made me proud and just plodded along in her usual manner, I had it off by the end of the day she suprises me more and more every day
smile.gif

As you can see she was so chilled out all day, this was her resting while her mummy and aunty caroline had some lunch back at the car

I had a Halti on Otto too, like you I just wanted the extra control but he was back to his slip lead on Sunday.
We wanted a new slip lead so were looking in a shop and the lady started telling me that if my dog was a puller she would lend me a harness, I told her he didn't pull I just wanted some extra control with the crowds, she said if he pulls in crowds this harness will work. By this point the whole shop was listening to our conversation, about my "pulling dog" (who was sat quietly next to me throughout by the way!) I told her a harness was bugger all use to me and I would stick to my Halti
grin.gif

Funnily enough I didn't get any vicious comments about him
confused.gif
I think it's the floppy ears

I love Shiba Inu's
grin.gif
They are such beautiful little dogs and look like real characters, what are they like as a breed Jasmine? I have only ever seen one over here!

I am very lucky as people don't usually pass comment on my 3. Although someone did comment on the fact Tina had no eye and how I was cruel to walk her?
confused.gif
She still has one working one!

I saw a beautiful husky on Saturday, one blue eye and one brown

Gina I`m sure Jasmine will correct me if im wrong but I think Shibas are a lot like sibes in their personalities quite aloof but very family orientated I would love one, we walk sometimes with a fantastic little man called Murphy very much a big dog in a little dogs body

lol Hen whenever anyone tells me one of my boys (loco thankfully does not pull but they certianly do) would walk nicely in a harness I just laugh and tell them my dogs know when they get their harness on they are allowed to pull as much as they like so no harness will stop my boys from pulling lol

That is what I was trying to explain to this women, Otto was allowed to pull in his harness when he was on the long line (well not pull, but not walk at heel) so he doesn't really behave that well in it now!
And the whole point of having his Halti on was so that I had control of his nose (as that is what gets him in trouble
grin.gif
) so a harness wasn't going to help that!!

I felt like taking him back with his slip lead on and parading up and down in front of her shop

Totally correct
smile.gif
shibas believe themselves to be as big as akitas...if not bigger!!!

In japan they are used for hunting small game. So they will chase and kill small creatures and birds. A friends shiba could take pheasants from the air. They are not a breed for the faint hearted.

[ QUOTE ]
I thought they would be a breed for more experienced handlers
smile.gif
Do you have any more pictures? I would imagine they are a difficult breed to get hold of?

Shibas are quite a popular breed at the moment. Unfortunatly a lot of the ones been bred are not very good:(

The only thing that bugs me is when people call my 2 sheepdogs and I have to tell them 'no, they're border collies'. If they're going to be given a job title then they're flyball dogs, not sheepdogs, they don't work sheep.

I know what you mean. Everyone points at Popple and says "Oh it's a labrador puppy isn't it!", erm NO
confused.gif
and when I try to say she's fully grown everyone insists that she isn't!! WTF?!
