Do you give you horses a holiday every year?

when i had my pony who i drag hunted regularly through the winter he then had 2weeks off just out in the field, but with my present mare, no. she doesnt do enough :p

Yes I do!! Always over xmas and new year as weather is crap and I have no money to compete!! They always come back fresher and better for it, I suppose it depends on your horse though and some may not like not being in work.

No not usually, only when it snows and we are yard bound - like now! Not ridden for 10 days now but am hoping to get out tomorrow provided the rain thats been coming down doesnt freeze tonight. Have to see what tomorrow brings, or its another day in the snowy field.

Yes - the weather makes us ;)

She had several weeks of last weather due to ice and snow and came back into work really well.
She's currently on a holiday right now, depending on the weather depends on when she comes back into work, she's had a fortnight so far.

see i have an indoor and she gets worked 6 days a week ;) but cause the weather doesnt stop i was thinking of giving her 2 weekish off til like new year? :) depending how good she is :p

I wasn't planning on giving Gery a holiday as I haven't had him very long but have decided I may as well with all this snow. I could lunge him in the indoor if I wanted to but I haven't got anywhere we can ride and he doesn't want to spend the next month trotting round in a circle so have decided to do it properly and let him have some time off.

the grown up horses work through, with a couple of weather enforced breaks. the babies are broken in nice weather and given a holiday when weather is cr.. then picked up again.

mine had the summer with me and then goes on working livery through the winter. so she had a week of before she went to working livery. and she will get another week of about april a couple of weeks after she comes home for the summer

Yes, Charlie always gets a holiday in jan or feb, usually due to bad weather. However, past week he been on holiday, due icy roads and frozen schools. He also gets a holiday in the 1st week of may when i go away. Always comes back fresh and raring to go

Not really, as they don't wrk particularly hard. Although some weeks they tend to work more day than others. If they have worked really hard (e.g. hunting) they will get the next day off and sometimes the day after that.

I don't tend to give them a complete holiday as they get stabled quite a lot over the winter so they need the exercise and in the Spring they need to be kept fit as they are both good doers and one of them is Laminitic so it wouldn't be doing them any favours giving them a holiday.
