For the past six or seven years I have never gone out around Bonfire Night, as Jura was terrified of fireworks. Now she has gone, I am wondering about going to our local display next week - it is 5 mins walk from where I live, and apparently last year most of the yard went and it was a really good evening

I am currently sat with fireworks going off quite loudly but not sure how close they are - Islay is upside down asleep waving her paws around, Flick was fast asleep then woke up when I moved, listened intently for about 10 seconds, then went back to sleep

Could I risk leaving them do you think? I am so used to never leaving them that I was fully expecting to be staying at home again this year, but they really dont seem bothered

My Landlord had a fireworks display on the farm last year after we'd only had Otto 3 days...

He wasn't in the slightest bit bothered, so we went out and left him and enjoyed their homemade chocolate apples

I can hear those fireworks too, they must be closer to you though as they are fairly quiet here, I thought it was someone tapping on the door!

My old GSD Chaka was absolutely petrified of fireworks, she was fine until the millenium but stupid neighbours had a mega display which totally freaked her out (another dog locally bolted and was missing for 2 days). From then on I never went out around November 5th, she was pathetic she was so scared, even fireworks on the tv would upset her.
However the current 3 aren't bothered and I have gone out and left them (with radios on etc). If your 2 seem relaxed I would think you will be fine to leave them.

LOL Henmeister, how useful it is to have local people on here too

They have just finished, but they were quite loud so I am guessing they are nearer to us than I realised

I suppose there will be more going off over the next few days, so I will make sure that they are still OK then might risk it if they seem to be as relaxed as they were tonight

Chaka sounds to have been just like Jura was MM, it was horrible to watch her, we always knew when someone had let a firework off even if we couldnt hear it because she would instantly react. And, like Chaka, she hated them on TV too

Good idea about the radio, I shall have to buy one between now and next week so they have company

We got fireworks near us at the mo and charlie brown is barking his head off. He's never heard them before. He doesn't seem stressed though just barking and growling. The other 2 are asleep on the chair. I don't go out fireworks night though as i am scared of them

Yes she could hear them from miles away. If she wasn't in the room with us she would start tearing at the door to get in to us, quite often the fireworks would only be faint but she would have heard them

Yet apart from that she had the strongest character, and I honestly believe would have protected the children and I with her life. I still miss her so much

Its funny you should say that, I was just sitting here reminiscing about Jura and how much I miss her too

Talisker left a bigger gap in my life if I am honest, as he had a bigger personality and a lot more issues that we had to overcome, but Jura was always very very special as she was the first rescue greyhound I had

RIP Jura and Chaka x

We have accepted an invitation to a Bonfire party at a friends house and now realise that every other year we have had my son or daughter at home to dog and horse sit. They are both away from home now so I don't know whether to go or not.
The horses will be stabled but have never been bothered by fireworks but 2 of the dogs hate them and cower under chairs.
