I was wondering if / would you haggle when you buy a horse.

Quite a few adverts say ONO, how much less would you offer.

I haven't any particular adverts in mind I just wondered how cheeky you could be.

Two time I've bought horses.

First one was up for £3000. offered £2200 - they took it.

Second horse had already been reduced from £6000 to £3900 so i thought i was pushing my luck asking and getting a bargain anyway!

if you don't ask you don't get!

One I bought was on for £2400 ono, tack negotiable. I had her for £1900 with saddle, sheepskin numnah, bridle and delivery

Always....you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I don't understand those who get so upset and feel insulted if offered a lower amount. Best so far for us was a horse advertised at £4750, I offered £2500 and got him for £2750. Bargain.....he is great.

You bet!!! "You gotta haggle" (life of brian

Yes.
With the first the first horse I bought I did not have the cheek to haggle, he was advertised for £1000 and was worth far more.

The second was advertised for £2000, but had been for sale for a while. I offered £1300, they said no, so I left them my number and told them to give me a ring if they changed their minds. They phoned to accept my offer later the same day.

The third was advertised for £2000, and again, I thought he was worth more, but seller wanted a quick sale, so said she would accept my offer of £1800 if I picked him up the next day!

Thats the first thing I thought of:
'You're supposed to argue, 'Ten for that? You must be mad'

I am terrible at haggling, I take my BF along who is much more the business head and leave him to the money bit. You don't get anywhere if you don't ask.

Same as marmalade - didn't dare haggle at £1000 and since found out he's probably worth a multiple of that given his previous training. The inexperienced owner didn't know what she had, apart from a horse that was defending itself (read - lash out).

We haggled a bit with the wife's horse - 10% and free transport and remember this was before the credit crunch so yes it's very worth trying to knock the odd sheckle or dinari off

oh yes, advertised at £1250, paid £100

seriously that was a horse that needed a lot of work and things sorting, plus £300 travel to get him here but I even haggled on the trasport! lol

My BF is fantastic at haggling and getting money off stuff but I'm rubbish. I got my horse before I met him and didn't dare haggle. I thought he was a good price and she was a client of mine. Plus she threw in loads of extras without me even asking. BF thinks I'm mad cos I didn't haggle. I let him do all of that sort of thing now!

I don't get offended if someone tries to haggle with me. I'm rubbish at saying no TBH!

Absolutely

My best would be a Mini Shetland advertised at £100 but actually cost me £000. I turned up to look and he'd been left to run wild in a 10 acre field. I offered £20, they said no, I turned to leave and they called me back and told me to have him so long as I could handle him and knew what I was taking on. They gave me free delivery too

6 months later he was a dream of a childs first pony and my (at the time) two year old sisters step up from the rocking horse

He's off teaching somebody else the ropes now
