Are you also in the unenviable position of having two horses stabled together and when one is on Box Rest the other one has to stay in too .... isn't it a bu**er and one of the only downsides to being on your own

Just had to share this as I am only on day 1 of 10 days and wondering how I am going to cope, as I want my old boy out moving but my TB has to stay in bed

Are your stables away from the field? When we built ours we can electric fence off a small area so we can leave the stable door open for the healthy horse and the boxed horse doesn't worry as much. Although JB would be banging on door all day if he couldn't get out as well.
 
No unfortunately not, they are quite a distance away in a court yard, which is lovely but not in these circumstances.

I have a lovely field shelter but as it is so boggy outside where the TB goes he cannot go out there as the moment. As Vet says his feet must stay dry!

I am trying to organise sorting out the boggy bit at the week end, so if I can manage this, then the next step will be if he does not object to be penned into a small area around the field shelter

Ha ha ... well it is a mobile one, however the other half is used by my old Cushings horse and is kitted up for him so it would be such an upheavel, so the quicker option is to sort out the area in front on the other half.

If it were my land it would be a completely different matter ... so I will keep doing the lottery

I did think about P but not sure if he would be unsettled as apparently he takes a while to settle and he has been through the wars recently

..... I will seriously think about that tho .... or get him some wellies as Flowerlady suggests ... something along those lines had gone through my mind as well .... it is amazing how us horsey peeps think of ways around things isn't it ..... a clothes horse comes to mind

N has bruised his foot (NF) (thank goodness it is not Motor!) ... apparently the wet and then the dry make the structure of the foot 'move' !!! and then although he puts 'heel' down first he is putting the outside edge of his foot down just before the inside edge and then when he trots he managed to bruise it, if you see what I mean

..... he did the same thing last year, at the same time, but with the other foot !!

N is coping ok but Motor is 'worrying' about being in ... bless his cotton socks ... so this weekend I am going to sort out the field so that they can both go out but confined into the area of their respective sides of the field shelter, but dry under foot

poor N, I hope he can go out soon, I don't know about you but the ground here has dried up really well after all that rain we had. Although you're on clay there aren't you?
Axey is wonderful, he's back to 100% and is certainly feeling very well too. He's like a different horse since his back was done and he even moves differently too. We had a wonderful lesson with Mandy on friday, she got us doing very baby piaffe and passage!
Will have to come and see you soon, maybe when Mike and Ralph are there......

Yes! I keep my horse at a friends house with her horse, she is under going treatment for bone spavins at the moment, so is having to be on box rest intermittently. Tonight she has actually gone for x rays, and I decided to leave my horse at home (last time he went too). He was actually fine in by himself. However, when she is there he wont go out by himself so has to stay in too. Its very frustrating. Im going to try and borrow a friends shetland pony for the next time

When my old boy was on box rest the TB went out for 1/2 a day and my old boy just accepted it.

However TB is ok with being in, although thinks digging his bed up is fun, but my old boy is rather tense and has his eye on me all the time 'waiting' to go out in the field or for a walk!!

Tomorrow I will have help, from the person who rides my TB .... so I may be able to let them both have some sort of stretch leg ..... to my relief

We have only recently had this problem, as my old horse was put down a few weeks ago so we now only have the two mares.

We have a tiny field v close to the stables, so when my TB had to stay in last week the other mare was fine in this small area. She is a bit of a pig and there was grass so OK on her own. Not sure if it would work the other way round though.

I bought a hoofeeze poultice boot from equine podiatry supplies for Flo as well, and would recommend it. If you got one then you could turn them both out.

Am assured by CLY that it stayed on her horse in the field for eight weeks (while waiting for an abcess to burst). It was more expensive then an ordinary poultice boot, but they don't stay on outside.

My friend who is a vets wife is v impressed with it as well and is going to equip her horses with one each in case of emergencies.
