Took my mum riding for the first time in years the other day and she was talking about my childhood riding and my old boy Ryan.

She mentioned how he was such a "city horse"

I burst out laughing and asked her to elaborate!

She descibed them as horse who are absolutely fine with traffic, bus shelters, lorries, wheelie bins, indoor areans, outdoor arenas, stables, horseboxes, showjumps, etc etc.

She eloborated - City Horses dont like hay bales in fields, sheep, cows, tractors, etc etc.

I could help but giggle at the idea of city horses, but maybe she had a point :p

Hummm, maybe Charlie is a city horse

Despite going round the stubble fields about 3 times a week for the past 2 weeks bales of straw are still terrifying to him  Massive tractors ad trailers carrying the scary bales of straw are however acceptable  :D :D

I once had a Welsh D who was a real 'city' horse.

He had been used as a totters horse in London and the guy I bought him from had used him on his egg delivery round and also briefly to pull a tourist cart on the sea front.

I found him 100% in all traffic and road conditions (road works, cones drills etc) but the first time I rode him on the forest he trembled until his hooves hit the tarmac again! He did very quickly learn that off road riding was fun though although he never had the patience to stand to do a gate.

He didn't really like being turned out either, he was ok for a couple of hours but then he would be at the gate waiting to come in.
