Hi,

I am a student at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell and I am looking for crib biting horses to observe for my dissertation (it doesn't matter whether he crib bites only at feed times, or every 2 minutes). My topic is management on the frequency of stereotypical behaviours and I have decided to look into the affect of turnout in decreasing the frequency of crib biting. The plan is to observe horses for around an hour and a half within the stable, and an hour and a half in the field.

Does your horse fit the following criteria:

Is not use to wearing an anti cribbing collar
Within the Birmingham/Warwickshire area
Has access to turnout

If you do have a crib biter, but for example it does wear a collar, please still get in touch as I have to be open minded with my dissertation title.

I hope to hear from you in the near future, and it is VERY much appreciated. Furthermore, not only will you be helping me complete my data collection, but also in advancing how we manage our crib biting horses.

Thank you again.

Lou

No probs. I did animal science degree with Stephen cooper and Danny mills., so interested to know outcomes of study.
I have been discussing the pos of ulcers with vet and have just started slippery elm and liquorice. X

Thanks again. Very interesting. I would love to take my study further down the science route, however, with the lack of funds and equipment this won't be possible. I am planning to do a masters in equine behaviour though, so hopefully then!

You could try doing some background reading and research - there have been a good number of studies into stereotypies, including crib-biting.
Have a look for Waters (or possibly Badnell-Waters) amongst others in EVJ.
And if you pop into some of the other colleges' libraries, or look online, many of them have the better dissertations (2:1 up) available for public perusal.
S :D

That's a good idea, thank you! This is why I have started thinking about it now haha.
