Do you have a favourite breed? If so what is it?

Appaloosa (only breed I've ever had) I know they are very much like Marmite you either love them or hate them. Even after his little meltdown earlier over his want for grass while leading and me having a good yell at him I still love the little ***** to pieces. I'd have to say I also love Cobs/Gypsey Vanners & Irish Draught

No yard is complete without a resident Shetland :D

My yard will remain "incomplete" I have had most breeds/ types in the yard including 2 shetlands for a short while but would never have one of my own by choice.
I don't have a favourite breed, I like pbas and ISH types as riding horses but they are not a breed as such.

Welsh sect D. As a child I used to go to local shows just to see a welsh d stallion called Gower Warrior, he was stunning and I wanted my own sect d because of him. Have a pb and a full d now. They are nuts!! But I love them and still think they are the most beautiful breed. Also love a shire just because they are so placid.

Dales, although that may soon be challenged by Welsh Ds given my recent acquisition of one :D

I'm also rather fond of appendix quarter horses

Irish draught all the way for me. Due to the 2 we have, as they share similar traits. Kind genuine willing and loving.

I have a TB, never again! But bought an American pinto saddlebred 8 months ago and I simply adore her, beautiful to look at, forward going but not stupid and sooo loyal, thrives on human interaction, very very clever and mastering her dressage, and yet cheap to keep, barefoot, lives off thin air, am hooked on the breed

I have most experience with TBs and native ponies, but after a riding holiday to Iceland in 2009 I would kill for an Icelandic. I fell in love with them because they are gentle and sweet (but cheeky!), hardy and versatile and because I mostly hack, which the tolt is great for. Also I'm 5'3 and 8.5 stone so don't look too silly on them... Shame that a lot of the Icelandics in this country are prone to sweet itch. :(

I tend to go for types rather than breeds.

I've had an arab x welsh D and 3 ISH's. My current chap is mostly connie. My two favourites are the (mostly) Arab x welsh D and the mostly connie. I like compact overheight pony types with pony brains which my little arab X and my current mostly connie have.

If I was to say purely on looks than Arabs have it for me on beauty and the way they float.

Think it has to be our Eriskay. She's nearly 20 now, she's not very scopey or athletic but she always tries her heart out. She's the best hunting pony and she's beautiful. She can be a right diva but if you ever find yourself in a fix, herd of bullocks chasing the dog, shoe caught in wire the one thing you don't have to worry about is Milly who just gets on with whatever has to be done.

Haflinger for me. They are just so beautiful and intelligent. Its like having a huge heavy horse in a compact size :)

NF too as they are so loving and willing to give anything a try no questions asked.

Quite a variety so far.
I personally like so many different types/breeds...I really really really want an Irish Draught...I've been pursuading my husband by telling him he would he able to ride it aswel (after some lessons of course)
I have a IDxTB (although she looks 99% TB) and I really like the mix of IDxTB, I've had one before my current one and she was great too although she looked more ID...I love Clydesdales & shires because they are beautiful but I also think Arabs are beautiful to look at, I would happily own any of them but I'm not sure im brave enough for an Arab.. 😳

I agree!! My two are just lovely, such characters and none of this s***land behaviour people go on about! They definitely make a yard I think.

I also love a Welsh - from A to D. I just think they are gorgeous.

Haflinger for me too, although I have had a Welsh sec D and a Connemara since mine passed away, they are by far my favourite breed - so intelligent and natural comedians.

A nice thoroughbred is unbeatable on the looks stakes IMO. Closely followed by some Trakheners. I also like Welsh Bs.
For myself however temperament and performance will come before breed, hence I have a 70% Arab I drive and a Welsh D I ride :p I've had at least one Shetland all my life, but to be honest can't see me getting one of my own. I'm too big to ride them and they don't do it for me driving. I can see the appeal, but I'd rather a Hackney pony- they are super cute!
