Thanks! As per the title really. I need to make-up a pattern for a jumping saddle numnah and trying to figure out what would be the most commonly used make to base it on, also what sizes are most common (my hunch is that 17", 17.5" and 18" and not smaller sizes?)

Oh and one more question please - do you use numnahs that attach to the D rings or 'normal' girth straps on jumping saddles?

Sorry to be so igorant

I know most of the GP and showing saddles, but not being a jumping person these ones are a bit outside my knowledge!

Thankee

I have a 17inch Wow XC saddle. Numnah on it attaches to the D rings as it's close contact.

If you're designing one.... I'm looking for a sheepskin numnah that has fluff all down the inside, and a ruff at the pommel and round the back but not round the sides. Must be forward cut and have fixed girth loops and short D ring loops..... can't find one anywhere, and the one that came with my saddle is wearing out!

I have a 17" albion K2 Jump saddle, and a 17" black country vinici monoflap jump saddle. If i'm using a monoflap saddle I like saddlecloths that attach to the D-rings, as there is nowhere else for them to attach to! If the saddle is a traditional one (2 flap like my albion) I like one that attaches to the girth straps, then it leaves my D-rings free for my breastplate to attach to.

I have a 17.5" Albion K2 Jump and I like the Stubben VSS pads that attach to the D rings.
There are not many saddlecloths that will attach to the girth straps on mine as the blocks are quite big.

bates jumping saddle size 17" (ideal suzannah dressage 17.5")

in both cases i only but saddle cloths that attatch to the d rings as the blocks are too large for most girth strap loops to fit well & i don't like cloths that don't have any attatchment as they always seem to slip back

size two WOW with numnah attached to the d-rings because it's a monoflap - there is increasing use of monoflap (short girth) by event riders - Amerigo, Butet etc etc.

I HATE girth strap attachments with a vengeance because they are normally sewn to the numnah producing a lump just where the saddle bears most heavily. I always cut the stitching and take them off!

Thats why we always sew them into the front of the numnah (I hate the traditional way of putting them under the saddle too, so it was one of the first design changes I insisted on lol)

But, oh dear there seems to be more makes of jumping saddle than I thought, was kind of hoping there would be a clear winner

At the moment its WOW or Albion I think as the starting point, with choice of short D ring loops and girth straps. Will be interesting to see if it becomes clearer with some more posts (hopefully)

I have a Classic Saddlery Ashland close contact saddle (17 1/2" seat) and would love to be able to buy a fleecy numnah here that fits it instead of waiting till I go back to visit my family in Canada (hopefully in the summer) where they sell close contact shaped fleecy numnahs!!!

It's not as forward cut as most jumping saddles, it's similar to the Classic Saddlery Lacanda but slightly not as forward cut as it:

My pet peeve are the girth loops sewn at the bottom of the pad as my girth never lines up with them as Hattie has a forward girth groove so the girth sits ALOT more forward than the girth loop on the pad.

For the top girth strap loops, I prefer them hooking onto the girth straps, not the dee rings.

Sobs, dear god how many different types are there out there, and here was me thinking this one should be a breeze lol!

Maybe make one to be a generic "close contact" shape (like they have in North America)and another with a "forward cut" for those REALLY forward cut jumping saddles like Albions, etc tend to be?

Actually that sounds like a really good idea. Next job is to find someone with suitable ones take a template...I might well be in touch!
